Re: Can we silence a single note in playback?
I spoke to soon. Peter's method does not work for me. I selected the following: Duration: 512 Note ID: Displacement -1. Then I unchecked Playback in both panels. And I cannot use the JW Change plug-in because Finale does not allow selection of the first note in a measure (first beat of third measure...

Can we silence a single note in playback?
In the third measure of the attached file, I have written a golpe (flamenco guitar percussive tap) on the first beat and assigned a wood block sound to the note in layer 4. Because I want the stem of the next note to connect with the golpe, I superimposed a guitar note over it, which I wish to silen...

Thank you kindly. I look forward to trying them out. Hopefully one of them will let me incorporate dynamics in Finale.

Do you use a 4K screen, and Finale appears OK? If so, I will upgrade.

Re: Can we anlarge the toolbars?
I selected the "Cool Black" style and "Large" size, but the icons remain unclear, and the text in Score Manager is microscopic (see attachment). Since all my other programs adapt well to my new PC, I suspect Finale 2012's algorithms were myopic. The improvement after increasing the "Text, apps & oth...

Can we anlarge the toolbars?
I bought a new laptop with a 4K screen and like the extra room on screen. Items in the Win 10 GUI are small but readable as are those in apps like MS-Word and other programs. So I do not want to adjust the display. But the icons in Finale are tough to distinguish. I looked in Program Options for a s...

Ah yes, page size! I forgot all about that option. Thanks. Legal size will work for my current score.
Thank you

What page setup for a full orchestra?
I can squeeze 9 staff systems on page one and 10 on the following pages, by resizing the staves to a tolerable 75%. What do you do when writing for an entire orchestra, where you need more instruments per page?

Re: Whate are the settings for diminuendo?
Your workaround is interesting. But for a gradual fade, I would need to create many custom dynamic symbols. Once my current score is finished, I will save each instrument as a wave file then use my DAW to add the gradual fade. Wait! I got the dim. to work. I set the last four bars to repeat three ti...

Re: Whate are the settings for diminuendo?
Thanks for responding, Peter. I have written a "repeat until fade" of four measures that are set to play three times, and they work nicely. I added a diminuendo expression at the end of the four measures, hoping the music would gradually fade out. I tried adding hairpins that work but then the volum...

Whate are the settings for diminuendo?
I created "dim." as an expression then edited it in Expression Designer, Playback tab, selecting Key Velocity. But I have no idea what Effect to choose (Set to value or Execute a shape). Is there a way to make the expression work like a hairpin?

Re: Self Publishing Advice for Amateur Composer
I have always depended on my publisher to promote my work and would not dare do any marketing without his approval. My first publisher fired me for being too eager; since then, I tread with humility and caution. But maybe I am being overly cautious. If you can get a celebrated performer to add your ...

Re: Human playback inconsistent pt.2
The Steinway soundfont is only available for ARIA player. SoftSynth does not support the Steinway, which is my favorite because of the growl in the lower register. But Garritan's Piano 1, Piano Bright and Piano 3 in SoftSynth are OK. But a keyboard is not my primary instrument, so my opinion isn't w...

Re: Human playback inconsistent pt.2
In HP Custom settings, copy settings from standard then modify the settings as you wish. If Standard fails, try another genre, until you find one that works. But make sure "Hairpins and Dynamics" box is checked in the panel. I cannot open your document with v2012, but I did select ARIA's Steinway pi...

Re: Human playback inconsistent pt.2
Oops! Sorry. I didn't realize I was complaining. According to the definition at the link posted, Audacity is a DAW, albeit a relatively simple one: but it still offers a lot of features to master a polyphonic recording and render a professional sound. I think Finale does a fairly good job of shaping...

Re: Human playback inconsistent pt.2
Are you saying the following steps fail? 1. Make sure at least one HP genre is selected (I prefer to select Custom then import Latin, which I modify; since, for example in 4/4 time, the first beat should have the strongest accent and the third beat the second strongest accent, implied in common time...

Re: Any workaround for the Add Measures bug?
Changing the HP to another genre solved the. Thanks. Since I had added measures more than on one occasion, I needed to select yet another HP genre. So each time I add measures, Finale inflicts the slowed tempo. Maybe if I set HP to "None" before adding measures, Finale will not corrupt the HP setting.

Re: Any workaround for the Add Measures bug?
I forgot to mention that adding a hidden tempo mark to restore the original speed also fails. In the attached file, the problem start in the middle of the second measure.

Any workaround for the Add Measures bug?
As in previous versions, my 2012 copy also has what I am regard is a pesky bug, where if you add measures at the end of a score, the tempo drags. When starting a new work, I set more measures than I think I may need (for the above reason); but if I add a few extra measures later, Finale automaticall...

Re: How do I make a Garritan Steinway sound real?
Nothing beats a better soundfont, but the next best option is a masterful EQ in a good DAW. Even the free but excellent Audacity allows you to shape the sound of an instrument in great detail, including a myriad of reverb effects and other potential enhancements, like the envelope tool for refining ...

Re: Human playback inconsistent pt.2
The default document: File -> New -> Default Document. I once had "Hairpins and Dynamics" selected in Human Playback, but playback did not render a crescendo because I placed the hairpin too low and assigned it inadvertently to the next staff system. I resolved the issue by deleting the hairpin then...

Re: Anybody have success in playback of a yodel?
That may be an idea worth exploring. All natural intervals with the human voice involve some micro-chromatic glissandos, except the yodel or break in the voice of a vocalist gifted with the ability to incorporate such ornaments. Jennifer Warnes comes to mind. I was hoping to add the effect to the oo...

Anybody have success in playback of a yodel?
I notice that the stock Garritan instruments include a yodel. I selected the Choir "Aahs" as the sound in Score Manager, but nothing I write sounds even remotely like a yodel. Anything else I can try to simulate a yodel?

Re: Human playback inconsistent pt.2
I had similar problems because I had edited the library file. Test the features you describe in a default document to rule out a corrupted library file.
