Re: MusicXML: "Silence error messages "... doesn't

In my experience, heavy editing tends to corrupt MIDI Data, among other things (Finale loathes complexity). I do not know if the following will help you, but it has resolved a variety of issues for me, and has never done any harm. 1. Highlight all the tracks in the document -> right-click in any par...

Re: restoring pre-v27 layout in 27 for Windows

When I upgraded to a later version, my old scores suffered a myriad of similar issues. The only resolution I found was to reformat the documents by converting them to MusicXML files then saving them as regular files. This procedure solved a lot of problems, but scattered articulations and expression...

Re: Pics disappearing

As far as I know, Finale does not embed images. The only way to permanently insert a graphic in a document is to save it as a PDF document. You can print to file, without printing to paper. If you remove the original image from the folder from which Finale grabbed the graphic, it will cease to appea...

Re: Guitar chord diagrams: Different fingerings for the same chord in same document?

If you figure out how to stop Finale from duplicating chord diagrams, especially blank ones that if deleted remove legitimate ones in the score, please share.

Re: Help! Drum track plays back with piano sound

I did clear the MIDI data, more than once. But with some luck, I managed to solve the problem as follows. 1. Score Manager -> select the drum set. 2. Make sure the "Notation Style" is "Percussion" -> Settings -> Drum Set -> Edit. 3. Select the erratic instrument (e.g. Hi-Hat Closed) -> remove ("-" b...

Re: Help! Drum track plays back with piano sound

I always understood a MIDI note in parentheses to be a duplicate sound: "Hi-Hat Open" is #46 and "Foot Splash" is (46). They sound identical. But I may be mistaken about the parentheses. In the attached document, the Foot Splash plays back correctly on my system. The rhythmic pattern of the Hi-Hat i...

Re: Help! Drum track plays back with piano sound

Thanks for the help.

On my system, Garritan is installed:
ScoreMgr.jpg
Assigning the drum set track to channel 10 and setting Finale to playback through MIDI restored the correct sound; but in doing so, the Hi-Hat in the drum track now plays back erratically (q.v.). Can that be corrected?

Re: changing duration of grace note played on the beat

Glad you solved the problem. I share your preference for durations to be in units of note values, but I can live with EDUs. I have always had the impression that MakeMusic refrains from consulting knowledgeable music engravers that would gladly offer feedback. I once thought of switching to Sibelius...

Help! Drum track plays back with piano sound

I edited a document beyond what Finale supports, after which the drum track began to play back with a piano sound (see attached). The following attempts to fix the issue fail: closing Finale and reopening the document; deleting the MIDI Data; reassigning the playback sounds; changing the Device from...

Re: Need help deleting a note

Thanks for responding. Fortunately I had an old copy of the score; so I duplicated the problematic document, deleted the instrument in one of them, added the instrument again (blank staff), copied and pasted the old track into the document, after which I updated the notation with the two documents t...

Re: staff names

Once you type in the instrument name and click OK, it will appear just left of the treble clef. But for piano, you want the name to appear in the middle of the brace, between the G clef and F clef. Mouse drag the handle down to the location. If you have the Clef tool selected, the handle of instrume...

Re: Can collection of MIDI Data be disabled?

I am not sure if disabling the MIDI playback settings caused Finale to assign a piano sound to my drum track. Have you experienced such a problem; if so, were you able to regain the sound of the original instrument?

Re: Need help deleting a note

Oops! Here it is. I have spent hours on this problem. I tried changing the instrument back and forth from Utilities and in Score Manager. But in doing so, I added another problem: the drum set track now plays back with a grand piano sound. There seems to be no end to the instability of Finale that s...

Need help deleting a note

In the attached page, a phantom note plays back on the first offbeat of the second measure. Can someone lend a hand and help me silence the hidden note? I enabled view to show hidden notes; cleared all the data in the problematic measure; wrote a series of notes in the measure and used the Edit Fram...

Re: staff names

Is this what you want? (attached). If so, use the Staff tool -> right-click on the staff handle -> select Edit full staff name -> type in the instrument name -> drag the name down to the middle of the brace.

Can collection of MIDI Data be disabled?

I frequently experience a variety of problems if editing a score but often am able to resolve them by clearing the MIDI Data. It seems that the collection of MIDI Data is an invitation for destabilizing Finale. Is there a way to disable it from altering the properties of a playback device?

Re: Can the sample rate of exported audio be changed?

That did the trick!

I forgot that Windows governs the sampling rate of Finale's output. I was using an audio clip at 48kHz while Windows was set to 48kHz. Thank you sooooo much!

Can the sample rate of exported audio be changed?

I am unable to synchronize an imported audio clip with the notation in a score, due to audio drift. The clip is the same tempo (BPM) as the score. I'm guessing a disparity in the sample rate of the two is the cause of the asynchrony. A search for sample rate in the manual found no help. Does Finale ...

Re: Exported Audio Files are out of sync

I notice that the latency in the leader rangers from 5ms to 50ms when exporting the individual instruments on different occasions. However, exporting them in one session has them all start at the same time in my DAW, wherein I add 1.5 secs of silence to the leaders. For me, the duration of ralls, ri...
