If I'm understanding you correctly, go to the Staff Tool, select the Group handle for the keyboard part, then in the Staff menu select Groups > Edit and in Group Attributes instead of ‘Only Hide if All Staves Empty’ select ‘Hide Normally’.
Does that do what you want?

Re: Want to compose, not learn software ...
If you want anyone to take your music seriously, you need to present it in a professional fashion. Is a composition 'professional' when it looks neat? Then all of the great masters of yesteryear must be the worst composers to ever walk the face of this planet. The fact that the score is set in a pr...

Apologies
I think there was a recent discussion in which I was given an answer to a question, which I now apologise for not acknowledging. We've had days of no power here in Aberdeenshire (Scotland) so I'm probably not going to catch up with everything. My power is now back on and I was fine enough without it...

Re: Rich black instead of pure black when printing to PDF?
I just followed Wess's sequence using my home inkjet printer dialogue, but ‘other profiles’ seemed to offer me everything except black and white. I get the same with CUPS-PDF (virtual printer) selected as the printer, and even when selecting a couple of currently inaccessible printers (this is with ...

I don't yet have F 27, but I suppose I'll get it before too long.

My opinion (no more) is that it would be OK, and probably best, to have the cue on both staves.

Re: O/T orchestral parts question
A brilliant and versatile violinist with whom I've worked on a number of occasions, but who prefers not to rely on memory, has a long piece of cardboard(?) to which the pages of the D minor chaconne are pasted so it can sit safely across three music stands.

Re: Finale AND Dorico (maybe MuseScore, Notion Sibelius, etc. also)
Full scores of Prokofiev seemed to be published in C while those of Shostakovich are transposing: from the same publisher. Why, I wonder? As suggested above, conductors seem likely to prefer transposing scores. When my Beyond the Far Haaf for two singers and full orchestra was first performed in a c...

Re: Finale AND Dorico (maybe MuseScore, Notion Sibelius, etc. also)
Most of the contemporary composers I've worked with prefer a score in C. I know that 12-tone composers in the mid-20th century did this, but I'm surprised that's still the case. Is there are reason other than not having to read transpositions? Or is that a musical skill that's falling by the waysid...

Re: Remove Courtesy Accidentals
If you have the full, paid for TGTools try TGTools > Music > Accidentals > Check accidentals. It should do what you want and leave only the strictly necessary accidentals in place (it should also reveal any obligatory accidentals which may inadvertently have been hidden).

Re: O/T orchestral parts question
I would agree that even if the solo part is not fully memorized you *ought* to be able to get away with turns that are inferior to those that you'd expect in an orchestral part. Nowadays with PDFs and photocopies a soloist should be able to find their own way round ‘impossible’ turns, even without r...

Re: Finale AND Dorico (maybe MuseScore, Notion Sibelius, etc. also)
… … … If MakeMusic doesn't do anything major with upgrades and real features, speaking for myself, I will definitely be tempted to switch over to Dorico. I MAY not do it tomorrow, but I can now foresee it happening at some point. If I weren't so inconveniently old (80) I'd second this, but I really...

Re: not specifically Finale, contrabass question
That's extremely useful to know, Andreo, thank you for posting it here. I hope I'm not about to be too OT, but I've long been interested in all aspects of harmonics, especially natural ones with their ‘true’ rather than equal temperament pitches. Harmonics, even natural ones, on heavier strings seem...

Re: Wandering text block
I've been writing a number of songs with piano recently, each with the same (smallish) vocal range and with similarities in the layout of the title and preliminary pages (done in Apple Pages). They range from less than 90 seconds to around 15 minutes in length. I'm afraid I've just been clearing eve...

Re: Dynamics shapes not found
On a Mac there is a short cut: hold the CMD key and "<" or ">" and double click where you want the hairpin to start. I think it may depend on how you have things set up. If I'm in the Smart Shape Tool, I just need to hold down < or > without the CMD key. If I hold CMD and < irrespective of whatever...

Independent playback dynamics piano Grand Staff
What is the simplest way to have independent playback dynamics on the two halves of a piano grand staff - but only sometimes? I seem to remember that if in the Score Manager each stave is given its own channel, that makes their dynamics independent. However, if much of the time one doesn't require t...

On the smaller Mac keyboard, if you hold down both 'fn' and 'shift' while pressing the right arrow it should behave as the 'end' key. (In Finale and some other applications, but not in all.)

Although one does sometimes see both at the same time, it's not necessary and is probably technically incorrect. Apart from anything else, on some instruments (maybe not on the piano though) these accents may be articulated differently. eg Scroll down https://www.finaleforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=...

Re: Too many notes
John: that sounds terrifying (the Brahms Quintet - and with all those notes to play [well it is Brahms]). I've been facing myself with a potential four page spread in my Kipling song cycle, which I would find anathema. I think it is best if the singer's and the pianist's scores are identical in layo...

Re: Too many notes
Hector, please try to incorporate good page turns. Not every page has to be filled, some can be empty, you can even have fold-out pages. Anything but a page-turner. While this is the best advice when practical, I think that at least some pianists seem happy to print a four page spread themselves fr...
