Re: Turning off reverb
Thank you very much, FwL. Now I can hear what I wrote, not what someone in a cavern might hear!

Turning off reverb
Finale 25.5.0.259 — Mac, MacOS 10.13.5 (High Sierra) When playing a score back in Finale, is there any way I can turn reverb off altogether? In the Garritan player there are many options for different kinds of spatial environment and ambience, but no setting for 'no ambience, no reverb' that I can s...

Re: Removing dot from dotted note
… 2. 'In Speedy Entry, highlight the dotted note and type the number corresponding to the desired note-length (e.g. 4 for an eight, 5 for a quarter, etc.)'. What actually happens is that a new note of duration specified by the typed number is inserted before the dotted note, which is not changed or...

Re: Removing dot from dotted note
Right--Insert Notes or Rests in Speedy needs to be unselected. The eraser works for me in Simple. It might be because I have an older version, or that I'm on Windows, but it's also the case that you have to be precise in putting the cursor (the arrow, not the eraser) on the dot. I was veery precise...

Removing dot from dotted note
I use Finale 25.5.0.259 on a Mac, MacOS 10.13.5 (High Sierra). Two simple methods are described in the User Manual and in these pages for removing the dot from a dotted note. I have failed to make either of them work. 1. 'In Simple Entry, select the eraser tool, press Option and erase the dot.' This...

Re: Creating shape for tempo alteration
Thank you, Peter Thomson. I read that page in the User Manual and tried the instructions countless times before I posted my question. And each time I missed the 'Show> Grid' instruction. All's well now, and I am sorry I wasted your time. I used Finale 2004 for years, and earlier versions before that...

Re: Creating shape for tempo alteration
No need to apologize — I wasn't very clear. Open Finale, go to 'Help' and choose 'User Manual'. Type rall. into the search box and then choose 'Define rall.marking for playback'. A bit of the way down the resulting page of instructions, there is a picture and explanation of the grid. As far as I can...

Re: Creating shape for tempo alteration
Yes, I can get there, too. But if I click 'Create' in the shape selection page, I get to the page for drawing lines (and curves, etc.) and not to the one with a grid for note values and degrees of alteration.

Creating shape for tempo alteration
Finale 2012 c.r.13 Mac OSX 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion) I tried to create a rallentando marking using a shape, but when, having clicked 'Playback', I got to the page where I should be able to select a link that would take me to the shape designer, I only saw 'Execute Shape — (a small pane for typing) — Se...

Re: Finale breaks grace-notes with two note-heads
I can now answer my own question! The (not entirely satisfactory) answer to the breaking of the grace-note dyad is to set 'Human Playback' to 'None'. But that raises a wider question: why did anyone ever think that a 'human', whether a standard human or a classical human or any other kind of human o...

Finale breaks grace-notes with two note-heads
I use Finale 2012c.r13 on a Mac mini with OSX 10.8.5. I am writing a trio with a piano part. In it, there is a dyad B'' - E''' to be played as an acciacatura, slurred down to a long F#''. The two notes of the dyad are to be played simultaneously. But Finale breaks them downwards, so that one hears E...

Staff tool: Spacing commands have no effect
I use Finale 2004b on a Mac G4 (PPC), OS X 10.4.11. I have been using Finale for many years, but I have now come across a very simple problem and have to ask very naive questions. In the past I have always spaced staves and systems manually. I am currently working on a piano piece that is in certain...

I got a message saying there was a reply (though it might have referred to my own post, actually), but when I clicked on the link, I got another message saying 'This post does not exist'! I should be glad of any information that anyone can contribute; I am not in fact using playback in the piece I a...

Thanks, Peter and Miker. But what I am really asking about is the dialog that appears when one inserts an octave-transposition text expression: it asks whether one wants the transposition to apply to the current layer, or to layer 1, 2, 3 or 4. Why does choosing one of these options have no effect o...

8va & 8ba signs: layers
I have just noticed that if I have two layers on one staff and I put one of the octave-transposition signs in as a text expression, it always affects both layers on playback, regardless of whether I choose 'Current layer' or 'Layer 1' or 'Layer 2' or any other. (I am using Finale 2004b on a Mac G4, ...

Reverting to the procedure of converting Finale files into pfd files and then joining them, CombinePDFs.app allows you to load a multi-page pdf into it, re-order the pages and create a new multi-page file with the pages in the new order. I have also discovered another (free) application, PDFLab.app,...

The Preview way of joining pdf files doesn't seem to work on OS X 10.4, Michel; at least I haven't succeeded in making it work. There is a tool-bar button called 'Move', but I cannot make out what it does. But I downloaded AddPDF from the VersionTracker page you gave in your kind reply, and that doe...

Joining two Finale files
I use Finale 2004b on a Mac G4 (PPC), OS X 10.4.11. My string quartet is in 3 movements. For reasons to do with when I wrote the three movements, the first two movements are in one Finale file and the third (I almost wrote 'the finale') is in a separate Finale file. I should say that the music is ve...

OK, I've found out! Ward Baxter has an excellent article on this at <http://wardbaxter.com/education/QuarterTones_Finale.php>. Note, though, that (at least on Finale 2004b), under 'Setting playback for "raise by one quarter-tone":, 5.', the instruction 'and click OK' should be deleted. And Baxter gi...

Quarter-Tone Playback
I use Finale 2004b on an eMac PPC G4 with OS X 10.4.6, but do not use an external synthesizer or keyboard. And in my scores I do not want a quarter-tone key signature; I only use a few quarter-tones in occasional passages of the music. But my problem is not so much the notation of quarter-tones as h...
