Adding staves

I've been threatened by my string section that I should divide up the violin part that I write for shows. Usually I write violin 1 & 2 as divisi on the same staff. So, I created a new staff for the second violins and copied and/or exploded the music from original combined part to the new violin 2 st...

I'll give that a try. I only discovered the volume settings in the banks while working on another issue.

Thanks.

Drum set issue

In the templates I have set up in the Score Manager. the "classic jazz drum set" in GIFF or GJBB always sounds weak and doesn't cut through the mix. If I change to the Smart Synth set I get a fuller sound, though not quite the same instrument layout. I've tried re-entering the drum patterns (I use a...

Re: What to do when Hyperscribe has fallen behind

Just a thought. Are you allowing yourself enough of a count-in before playing? I find that I need two measures of count-in so I can start exactly on the first beat.

MIDI file export

When I export a midi file from Finale (into Logic Pro), why do the patches not transfer also? For example, I have 25 parts for stage orchestra ranging from woodwinds, brass, rhythm, and strings and when I export the file the tracks are in the correct order in the DAW, but the midi information design...

Found it!

Unchecking "automatic update layout" in edit menu under preferences solved the problem.

Moving measures

Until recently I have been able to move a blank measure, caused by a 2-bar repeat (staff style) up or down to the adjacent system, Now, however, this seems to have quit working. My work method was to select the measure with the selection tool and then pushing the up or down cursor keys. Is something...

Re: Magic mouse 2 and Finale

Will try out your suggestions. Yes, Mike I know I can slow down the movement but that seems counterproductive in other programs. I do write in scroll view as I'm dealing with a score for a large ensemble. Will see what happens in page view. I also used to write using an original Magic trackpad, but ...

Magic mouse 2 and Finale

On my new iMac with Finale 25 I have an incredible amount of wasted time because of my Magic Mouse 2. For those that are not Mac users, this is the gadget that allows you to "swipe" with a few fingers to go sideways in apps, or to move between pages when web surfing. I can just barely touch the thin...

Re: Making booklets

You might try this if you have a tabloid size printer. I seem to remember that I saved it from a previous post on the old Make Music forum. In Program Options: Save and Print, make sure the checkbox next to “Use Finale’s page orientation…” is NOT selected. In the Page Layout tool, use 8.5x11 as your...

Re: Display in concert pitch

After posting the previous, I realized that I had programmed the above shortcuts through the System Preferences>keyboard>shortcuts>apps pane on my Mac. I am able to toggle quickly through most of the tools in the pallet with the exception of the staff tool and the smart shapes tool. For some reason,...

Re: Display in concert pitch

Try the function key F13. Should toggle between concert pitch and transposed. Not sure how these came to be, but this shortcut work in 2014 and 25. Here are others: STAFF F1 MEASURE F2 KEY SIGNATURE F3 TIME SIGNATURE F4 SPEEDY ENTRY F5 HYPERSCRIBE F6 SMART SHAPES F7 EXPRESSION F8 ARTICULATION F9 CHO...

Re: moving measures in page layout

Nope. Both of the options I mentioned were checked in the document. When I unchecked them, I was able to move the measure without a problem. I plan to leave those options checked as they seem to run in the background. I will use my workaround only when I can't get a measure(s) to move before printin...

Re: moving measures in page layout

Think I've found the issue. When I uncheck automatic update layout and automatic music spacing it works as I remember it. Can't figure what that would have to do with it, but for now your suggestions leading to my detective work have given me a workaround.

Thanks!

Re: moving measures in page layout

Thanks for the replies. To answer your posts:

1. I am doing thing through the selection tool.
2. Those are the current settings in preferences. The only difference being that automatic update layout and automatic music spacing are also checked.

moving measures in page layout

In the past I have been able to move a measure, or measures, to a previous system by selecting it and hitting the up or down key (Page view). Now, nothing happens. I've made sure that the system is unlocked and there is enough space to accommodate the selection I wish to move. Is this a glitch/bug o...

Re: Need a large score

Interesting feedback on the Brother printers. I use my cheap Brother monochrome laser for parts when printing for a show. I print on 24 lb Xerox copy paper with a 96 brightness (found at Costco) and my guys/gals like the crispness, especially on a dimly lit stage. As for my Canon large format, I too...

Re: Need a large score

If you have a large format printer, I would suggest 11 x 17 " (tabloid) paper. I currently use a Canon Pro 100 inkjet for my scores when writing shows. Keeps from having to read tiny notes and symbols.
