Re: How to modify functional expressions that don't show how they do what they do
Thanks for these responses -- I think I'm getting closer to some understanding of some of the behaviors. Apparently there is no central location that contains all of the current values of the parameters, and allows users to do their own arithmetic on them. So a lot of time is going into experimentat...

How to modify functional expressions that don't show how they do what they do
Some functioning expressions don't have any visible clue how they work -- e.g., rall., accelerando, a tempo, & others. How can I get to the underlying midi parameters, assuming that's where they are? All I see in Expression Designer > Playback is
Type: None
and
Effect: Set to value [0].

Re: Speedy Entry with dotted notes
miker, thanks for returning to the Repitch tool -- in my flurry of experimentation, I forgot to try it -- also, I never used it before, didn't know what good it is. So this now looks like the most efficient way: > make a measure of correct rhythm, any note (but not rests, I discover) > copy the meas...

Re: Speedy Entry with dotted notes
Well I'll be darned -- that's a good one, thanks! For my immediate purpose -- quarternote-8thnote sequences for 6:8 oompah rhythm -- Simple is as good as Speedy, maybe better. Now, if there were a rhythm-copy item in the Edit Filter, that would be super efficient.

Speedy Entry with dotted notes
It looks like Speedy can't be caps-locked into any dotted-note values -- if that's not true, please let me know. I want to speedify chord accompaniment entry for music in 6:8, like jigs and rondos. The chords bump along Quarter-Eighth-Quarter-Eighth- ad infinitum, requiring one hand to oscillate on ...

Re: Mysterious volume changes
Thanks for that! There's a lot of subtle stuff here. I read the description of "Automatic expression" -- maybe there's a bug in the programming, as it says "automatically add expressions (temporarily) to passages where there are none." I just stumbled on what looks to be the unsuspected culprit. I h...

Re: Mysterious volume changes
!!! Yes, zuill, this is exactly right. Please let me know what the problem was, and the cure.
edit: I can't help but notice that it loaded into Finale2.6 with the message that your doc was an earlier version. Does this have something to do with it?

Mysterious volume changes
This piece changes volume on playback -- I have tried everything I can think of to find the problem or just eliminate it. There are 5 sections, m5-12, rpt, m15-22,rpt, m5-12. Call them A1, A2, B1, B2, A3. In playback, B2 is a bit different from all of the preceding, then A3 is different moreso. The ...

Re: Split-measure with decimal -- trouble
Thanks, motet & zuill. If I may pursue this for a moment longer then, how I got entangled with this recently -- zuill, it looks like we are in a similar situation, per attached. I'm working on a ton of such pieces -- all are 16m-rpt + 16m-rpt + D.C. or D.S. to Fine. Some, like this one, have pickups...

Re: Split-measure with decimal -- trouble
Yes, my mistake -- it's 5/16 = 0.3125. It worked, but I copied the wrong number here. No need for such a slice, except just to practice a few times until I don't have to aggravate over it every time.

Re: Split-measure with decimal -- trouble
Thanks for the example, zuill. It looks like on my musx sample I wrote incorrect split numbers, as the integer part of the was hidden. I'm experimenting more, and I'm sure I got it now. And I was about to opine on the sensitivity limit of 0.25, but motet anticipated it. I tried the same 0.9375 exper...

Split-measure with decimal -- trouble
The split-measure plugin isn't counting right, although it knows about decimal splits. See attached simple 2/4 splits into 1.75, 0.5 and 0.25, all permissible values, and with different note durations. They all come out wrong. Probably irrelevant, but I tried to split into 7/8 (= 0.875) -- also a fa...

Re: playback delayed
I get playback delay more than I don't get it. But after trying serious interventions like closing Finale or rebooting, I discovered that clicking the Simple Entry Tool eliminates it. Also, I see that clicking Simple Entry Tool entails about a half second delay -- that would indicate that Finale is ...

Re: cut time
This post was going to be a similar plea for help, but I stumbled on a video Finale help place ( conqueringfinale.com ) that solved my problem, so I'm happy to report a resolution, in case another wanderer wanders by here. My problem was Finale refusing to turn a 2/2 (showing as common-time C (!)) t...

Re: How to print system numbers?
Nice to see these other ingenious methods to get line numbers. Maybe some upgrade day, the Finale programmers will add such a routine -- the logic is already there, per the Page Layout tool. A related task, likely not broadly desired, is to have staff names on both the right & the left sides of the ...

Re: How to print system numbers?
I just stumbled on this ancient thread, hoping to find a built-in procedure for line numbers / system numbers. Here is the easiest way I know, and these instructions are written into the attached example doc: > Create a text box. > Type in the counting numbers, each followed by one (or two?) line-fe...

Re: No-scroll is 2 operations -- are they separable?
Just tried that -- the cursor is a lot less intrusive. Horn group is tonight, & I'll try it out. Thanks for the idea! I wouldn't have thought of this, even didn't know that it was here to think of. There's a fine line between color preferences and Document Options, & I've seen note-color prefs there...

Re: No-scroll is 2 operations -- are they separable?
Yes, with Zoom I share computer sound also. I haven't experimented yet being on the receiving end, but my horn group is happy with it, so I know that it sounds better than cycling thru my pretty-good speakers & back thru the mic. Strange coincidence here -- as Finale packs two operations into no-scr...

Re: No-scroll is 2 operations -- are they separable?
Well thanks, miker. You'd think that Finale would want to enable solid mmo, given Zoom's instability -- likely a lot of people would be prompted to mmo smoothly. Like thousands of teachers, at least.

No-scroll is 2 operations -- are they separable?
In Playback Settings> Scrolling playback, unchecking implies 1) no visible cursor, and 2) no movement to follow the current position when the music goes off-screen. Is there any way to activate no-visible-cursor but retain visibility of the active measures of the score? This is desirable for present...

Re: Note-head color for selected notes
Thanks -- I won't count this Finale limitation, if it is one, as important. My situation is that I'm involved in Zoom meetings where I play a Finale score with one voice muted, so that the participants play along as music-minus-one. There are a few places where it is nice to draw their immediate att...

Re: Disabled Tempo expression isn't disabled
My oops, thanks -- I had a fundamental misunderstanding, cleared up now, that "metronome marking text" referred to the Playback controller's number, not to the text in Main. So now, the only way to keep the expression as a suggestion, rather than a command is to switch "Tempo" to "None" in the Playb...

Disabled Tempo expression isn't disabled
See attached. I duplicated the canned tempo expression Quarter = 120 to make it Q=88, but kept it disabled (Match playback to metronome marking text), so that the tempo would be changeable by the Playback control. But the tempo stays (about?) 120, no matter what Playback says. I tried all the experi...
