Unable to delete page break
I know how to delete a page break, but it's not working in the attached at system 4. In Page Layout, I select that system, pull down the Page Layout menu, and where I would normally just click on "Delete Page Break", I can't because it is greyed out. Can someone see what's wrong here? Thanks, Mark O...

Re: Hiding staff abbreviated names
Actually, if you right click on the arrow next to the instrument name (second column) in the score manager, e.g. >Flute, you'll see there's an additional Flute on a different channel, starting in measure 26. Ditto the other instruments. I couldn't say how that happened (Change Instrument, maybe?) o...

Hiding staff abbreviated names
I just started editing the attached score. I want the full staff names to show at the beginning but not to have any staff name abbreviations to show throughout. So, as I always do, I eliminated the staff abbreviations for all 5 instruments in the Score Manager. They are absent from the first two pag...

Re: Problems with Repeat Brackets
… when I tried exactly the same procedure on the bracket for the 1st measure ending, I ended up with TWO horizontal lines instead of just one. Very frustrating! How can I get this to work properly? … Actually this does work properly. The two horizontal lines are both supposed to be there. Just adju...

You're absolutely right. Thank you! Now Why in hell would that happen? So weird.Anders Hedelin wrote: ↑Fri Jun 03, 2022 7:35 amIt looks like the extension handles have (been) moved to the top system on the page.

Re: One could lose one's sanity in the Lyrics Tool
I insert a hidden grace rest to stop runaway word extensions. I’m sorry, but I’ve never had that sort of problem with lyrics. Things do occasionally go south, but I usually find that it was operator error. Which is not to say that there isn’t room for a lot of improvement in the lyrics tool. But wh...

Problems with Repeat Brackets
In the attached, measures 24-25, I need to be able to edit the height of the piano's horizontal repeat bracket, because otherwise, it cuts right through notes. I was able to do this with the 2nd measure ending, but when I tried exactly the same procedure on the bracket for the 1st measure ending, I ...

One could lose one's sanity in the Lyrics Tool
So many things I want to complain about with the Lyrics Tool, but for the moment, I will settle for a solution to this: In m. 45 of the attached, in the final word "a" in T2, B1, B2 are unwanted and inappropriate word extensions, and I want to get rid of them. Unfortunately, when I choose "Edit Word...

Re: How not to have hyphens in lyrics in 1st ending measure?
There is a Unicode hard hyphen available at U 2011 which might do what you want. You'd need to experiment with different fonts and font sizes to get it looking right, but that's what I did very recently when I was setting Rudyard Kipling's ballad The Young British Soldier where the poem itself has ...

Thanks!Bill Stevens wrote: ↑Sun May 29, 2022 10:56 pmUse a hard hyphen instead of a real hyphen. The hard hyphen doesn't look exactly like a real hyphen so you might need to select it and reduce the font size.

Re: How not to have hyphens in lyrics in 1st ending measure?
Take that refrain out of verse 4. Put it in verse 5, starting at the second ending, and adjust the baseline so it's even with verse 4. The hard hyphen looks bad, to my eye, at least. Their hard hyphen is an en dash, rather than the hyphen-minus that all the others are. Create an expression using th...

How not to have hyphens in lyrics in 1st ending measure?
Is there a way to not have hyphens between two syllables, the first of which is the last before a skip to a 2nd ending, at which point the word resumes? In other words, the voices are not actually singing that syllable during the 1st ending measure, and the hyphens make it look as if they are. It lo...

Re: Vertical Spacing of all verses of a lyric at the same time?
This may not do everything you want, but you might try this, from the User Manual, under the Lyric Tool: Set Piece Offsets To Default Font. Click this button to tell Finale to automatically change the baseline-positioning values for all Verses, Choruses, and Sections in all staves. When this is don...

Re: Vertical Spacing of all verses of a lyric at the same time?
On Windows I believe there is an "accessibility" feature than lets you use key strokes to move the mouse. Does the Mac have similar? We have up, down, left, right nudge arrows, but there are certain things they don't work on at all in Finale, unfortunately. Moving lines of lyrics is one of those, a...

Re: Vertical Spacing of all verses of a lyric at the same time?
I've had just the same problem, and can confirm that it's time-consuming and nerve-racking. Because you can't move the whole set of verses as a unity, and because you can't nudge the arrows of the lyric lines with the arrows of the keyboard - you have to drag them with the mouse with annoyingly unc...

Vertical Spacing of all verses of a lyric at the same time?
I'm editing a strophic choral piece with four verses of text. I'm having to vertically adjust each line of text in each voice (SATB voices, not Finale voices) in each stanza, and as soon as I get one voice adjusted for all four verses, I realize that I have to go back and readjust all the others in ...

Alas, no. Somewhere along the line I read that MakeMusic was working on it, but that was months ago. I suppose upgrading to Finale 27 might be the only way. I was avoiding doing that, but maybe I need to now.

Re: Stuck with unwanted Bold Italic Text Blocks
There was a time, if I remember correctly, when Finale would mix up typefaces and their styles: so you could have "Times New Roman Bold" in a Plain Style and "Times New Roman Italic" in a Plain style. If you're getting this in old documents, then it should be fixable by re-selecting the typeface an...

Re: Stuck with unwanted Bold Italic Text Blocks
Yes, it has to be a Finale issue. Times and Times New Roman work just fine in every other application I use them in, and this problem is *not* specific to just one file of mine, as someone in the thread suggested: it's in every Finale file I open, new or old.

Re: Stuck with unwanted Bold Italic Text Blocks
I'm sorry to say that I have not found a good solution. Perhaps 27 solved that problem, but I didn't find any other reason to start using it. But I am relieved to know that I'm not the only one who had this problem! As I discovered and wrote about earlier in this thread, this is a known issue betwee...

In the Staff tool, select just that staff, for just that system, and pick Hide Empty Staves from the Staff menu. That is what I assumed was the way to do it, but I do exactly that and the staff I want to hide remains. I'll attach the score, hoping you or someone can see what is wrong. I want to hid...

Hiding just one empty staff
Is there a way to hide JUST ONE empty staff in a system in which there are other empty staves? I followed the instructions for a cut-away type score, hoping to hide just one empty staff, but it hid all of the empty staves for that instrument throughout the piece, which is not what I want at all; I n...

Re: Unable to space one measure
Your tuplets are five sixteenths in the space of 2 sixteenths is the problem. If I let Finale pad the measure with rests, this is what I see, which is likely the reason for the space. You can fix it with the separate tuplet tool by carefully double-clicking on the first note. Aha! Thanks so much. O...
