Re: Swarm of Finale 25/26 Bugs: At this point, Unusable
I too experienced a myriad of problems after upgrading from 32-bit v2012 to 64-bit v26, including frequent lock-ups and inability to extract parts: I had to extract one instrument at a time. The techs at ZenDesk recommended a fresh download and clean install, meaning I had to manually remove all res...

Re: Guitar bend-to error solved!
The error occurs when entering the symbol across staff systems, such as when the guitar bend commences at the end of one page and terminates at the beginning of another. My 64-bit version of Finale 26 incorrectly accrues the interval; for when I delete preceding guitar bends in the staff, the proble...

Any control of Page View during playback?
Scroll View and Studio View are options for viewing a staff system lower down on a page during playback, but is there a way to stop Finale from jumping to the top staff in Page View, when zoomed in to 200%?

Guitar bend-to error
In the attached document, on page 1, the guitar bend symbol accurately indicates a "bend-to" of a full tone. But on page 2, while the interval is shown correctly in measures 31, 35 and 39, the same interval is displayed erroneously as 3-1/2 semitones in measures 33 and 37. If I click on "3-1/2" it s...

Re: Percussion layout for the didgeridoo?
I think you are referring to the scale below C, which is pretty much unusable as the sound is degraded. E4 and G4 notes play back as B2, and sound authentic. If I write an F#4 and sustain the note, a very good imitation of s kookaburra can be heard. I am hoping a percussion MIDI map layout can be co...

Re: Percussion layout for the didgeridoo?
Ah, you are correct. The technique for playing the didgeridoo (aka Yidaki) is akin to trombone, a none-reed instrument. Ron is playing one similar to one my father played (waxed). In my collection, none of the expensive ones I have sound as rich as one that I constructed out of paper towel rolls. I ...

Re: Percussion layout for the didgeridoo?
I do not know what version of Finale you are using, evidently it is a better version than mine (26.2.1.468), which does not correctly classify the Didgeridoo as a woodwind instrument but erroneously lists under "Brass." So MakeMusic added yet another problem to fix. (It would also be nice if instrum...

Percussion layout for the didgeridoo?
When I write for the didgeridoo in v26, all the notes play back in the pitch of B1. I need them to be in A1. (Garritan -> World -> Brass -> Didgeridoo.) When I open the document, the following message appears: Didgeridoo.jpg The didgeridoo is not a percussive instrument, but do I still need to creat...

Re: Tied notes get louder over time despite pp marking
Yes, the contrabass harmonics compound over time, and the volume of the instrument naturally oscillates, which you want for authenticity. But I think also that the human ear becomes sensitized to the sustaining note (the brain starts releasing NE). You could add hidden hairpins and additional hidden...

Re: Need sound advice transferring files from 2010 to v26
Garritan Ambience has been discontinued; so when you convert a MUS file to a MUSX, you will need to deselect Garritan Ambience in the new document; otherwise Finale will nag you with the notice each time you open the converted document. I think the Garritan Ambience box has been kept for this purpos...

Re: Cannot change an instrument in Score Manager
I think I discovered the problem. I use dual monitors. When I moved Score Manager back to monitor #1, I was able to change instruments. I experienced no such problem when using v2012.
But thanks for responding.

Re: Cannot change an instrument in Score Manager
As far as I know, changing from English Horn to Synth Brass does not involve changing from one clef to two. To rule out a defective document, I tried changing a variety of instruments in a default document, but without success. I sent MakeMusic three files it requested: MsInfo, DxDiag, and Plogue's ...

Cannot change an instrument in Score Manager
After "upgrading" Finale from v2012 (x86) to v26 (x64), I converted all my .mus files to .musx. Now, if I edit a score and wish to change an instrument, like Horn if F to Synth Brass--in Score Manager--I am unable to do so. The instrument is locked. Now if I highlight the entire staff and then go in...

Re: Delete Finale Backup Files
I once ran a search for an old document and made a note of all the locations in which it was saved, the three file extensions being .musx (with .mus), asvx (with asv) and .bakx (with .bak). I then used my file manager to manually delete them. A Start Menu shortcut to the locations may be handy. Anot...

Re: Garritan instruments not playing
All the posts at Sibelius forum evidences that it too is unstable. Did you try my steps? Select for Finale to play through MIDI. If you are configured to play through VST, you will need to make sure the program point to where your plug-ins are loaded (Edit > Preferences > Folders(. Basically you hav...

Re: Sound distorts
The labor of adding measure to the first document, opening both documents in tiled horizontal or vertical view, and then copying and pasting the measures of the second doc into the first has been a universal fix for me when an issue persists. I think that way both documents share the same library fi...

Re: Garritan instruments not playing
I wasted a good portion of my life, contending with the issue of instrument playback loss in Finale. Not wanting to retrace steps that helped in the past, I made notes along the way. A recent upgrading of Finale caused loss of playback again through VST, and option 4 below worked nicely. I share my ...

Re: Garritan instruments not playing
I got a support ticket from MakeMusic about this issue. Until I get a fix that I will share, here is what you can try in the meantime: MIDI/Audio -> Playback through MIDI -> VST Banks & Effects -> from Instrument drop-down menu, clear all but Bank 1 and select SmartMusic. While there, make sure the ...

Need help setting up playback of Garritan instruments
I recently upgraded from 32-bit Finale v2012 to the latest version because playback through VST was unstable. I uninstalled v2012 and purged the registry of its footprints before performing a fresh install of Finale v26 (x64). Playback through MIDI still works, but I cannot get playback of any file ...

Re: Garritan instruments not playing
Scary when someone as skilled as you experiences such a problem. I am experiencing the same problem and attached a copy of the error message I get when attempting to Edit ARIA Player in my recent post. My guess is that v26 does not like Garritan instruments, failing to import *.sfz files. Are you ab...

Re: New custom library files needed for upgrade?
Are you saying bit-ness applies only to executables? If so, why then do developers release their VST plug-ins in x86 and x64 versions? I must be overlooking something. None of my old plug-ins work in the 64-bit version of Finale. Only the x64 versions that I recently download and installed work. I w...

Re: New custom library files needed for upgrade?
Moreover, all my 32-bit libraries load OK into the 64-bit version of Finale. But my 32-bit plug-ins do not work on a x64 system. So I downloaded some from Jari Williamson. While searching, I found a killer VST synthesizer called Tunefish, which is totally free and works nicely in Finale. I can now a...
