Re: Accidentals

In Simple, to force an accidental to show: Ctrl+Shift+- (easier in Speedy, where it's just the * key).

Re: Unable to move a lyric line

Moving the second triangle *should* work to solve the problem you describe. Is it possible that you don't have the "current lyric" active? Maybe that's one of the settings that was accidentally changed.

Re: Backup (BAK) files and Backups folder

FWIW: In Finale, Edit/Program Options/Folders is where I do battle with each upgrade (currently in 2011). I rewrote the path to Backup to a location of my choosing. Note: It has to be a folder that's already been created. If you just enter C:\New Folder\Backup My Stuff, that information will be igno...

Re: "unread" vs. "new"

The light dawns. I have the habit of clicking the "mark all posts read" link before I surf elsewhere; accordingly, when I return, all the unread and new posts are the same.

"unread" vs. "new"

The View Unread Posts link and the View New Posts link have yielded the exact same lists of topics whenever I've thought to check both. Is there supposed to be a difference between "unread" and "new"? (Yes, it *is* a slow day today. Why do you ask?)

Re: How can i do this in Finale 2009 (Bb/Ab7)

Another route to the same destination: Enter Bb/Ab (slash or horizontal), and on the same note, enter Ab7, which you can nudge to overlap the Ab already there. (Or you could just call the chord Ab9+11 and be done with it!)

Automatic Music Spacing, or *any* music spacing. Some of us still leave that step for later in the process, and initiate it manually.

It *can* be done, but there remains the question of whether it *should* be done. Granted, you may have a specific requirement in play here, but speaking as someone whose gigs often include cold sightreading and transposing, I want to tell you, those little -s are very easy to miss.

I find it happens if I've attached a lyric syllable to a Layer 2 note that has nothing but Layer 1 after it. You might try going to the initial measure of the wayward extension and changing its properties in the Measure tool to prevent said extension from crossing the barline. You might be left with...

"Can Finale do that?" Yes, more or less. You could easily type out the lyrics as text placed underneath empty staves. If you want them to be actual lyrics, they need to be attached to something, i.e. notes. Not sure if Songwriter allows invisible notation. In general, though, every version of Finale...

Assuming you have an active Speedy box open and the cursor is on a V1 note, the only thing you will see when you hit the ' key is that V1 in the corner of the box will change to V2. Then you enter your second voice. (Though given the apparent arbitrariness of stem direction in V1/V2, you'll probably...

The list of recent files in the File menu can include as many as you want -- it's a program option setting. File/Open will take you to whichever folder you've designated for storage.

Or, if you want to leave the original music in Layer 1, copy it first and then change the copy to Layer 2. If there's already music in the destination measures, you might want to add an additional blank staff temporarily as a transfer point.
