Launch Finale. From the launch window, select Open... and set the file type at the bottom to MIDI. Browse to the MIDI file, and open it. You should then see the screen where you are given a few options.

Much the same idea that Michel had in another thread. You guys are way ahead of me!

Peter, I played with that idea for a while. I tried using the Wingdings font, which has the numbers in circles. But since the circles are "transparent,", the lines of the fretboard show through. How would you deal with that?

I won't say it can't be done, but I think I can say it won't be easy. Are you trying to add a number inside the dot, or next to it?

Do you want to be able to do custom chords, or is this for the standard chords that are already in the Seville font?

That's not what I mean. Select the staff with that measure. Then CTRL+M will bring up a dialogue box where you can specify how many measures in that staff. Choose one measure fewer than you have, and see if that helps.

You could use the Fit Music command to put one fewer measure on the line, to give yourself more space. Also, in Document Options>Music Spacing, make sure that Chords are checked in the Avoid Collisions section.

Djard, I would turn the question around> How have composers of classical music done it in the past? You, as the guitarist, would know how to notate a piece. You know how a notated phrase sounds. If all of the ties are superfluous, and there is already an accepted way to do what you need, do it that ...

I could be wrong, but I think I remember reading that that app only works that way with Mac, and not with a PC, yet.

Sorry I just have one more question... Is it possible to change the key and time signatures partway through a song??? Yes and no. If you are writing in C, and decide the piece would be better in Eb, yes, you can change the entire piece. But if you wanted to change halfway through, then what Warren ...

Sorry, but I don't understand "besat." Do you mean multi-measure rests? That is, a measure with a bar in it with a number over the bar, meaning "rest for x measures?"

Do you have a pickup measure? Remember that the pickup measure is not included in measure numbering.

Measure numbers can't be adjusted in PrintMusic.

Are you entering your notes onto a Guitar staff chosen from the setup Wizard? This has the proper transposition already set up, so when you drag to the TAB staff, it will be correct. If you are starting from a piano staff or something similar, your notes will show up in TAB an octave high.

You might also try selecting that second note, and hitting Shift+T, to tie it to the previous note.

First, turn off Fill With Rests at End of Measure. You can find this in both the Simple and Speedy Entry options. This will let you switch layers, without inserting the extra rests. Or, you could build a series of chords. Keep all of the chords in one layer. Select the measure, and Utilities>Explode...

Are you talking about composing this way, or notating from a handwritten piece? When you say "notate all voices at once," do you mean that you want to build your piece as a series of chords, rather than a series of lines? If so, then create your chords in one staff, and then explode the parts out to...

In the center column of the instrument list, you need to select "New Instrument" (it's up at the top of the list; you may need to scroll to see it.) Then you can assign a different channel.

Fine. In slash notation, all of the measures will be the same. So if you want five of them in a system, select all 10, and Utilities>Fit Music should do what you want. Remember that you can use the up and down arrows to shift the measures from system to system, as well.

Why would you think that? It's not a normal way to space measures. A measure with eight, eighth notes should not occupy the same space as two, half notes.
