Re: New Mac OS

Oh my! BuonTempi's post led me to what appears to be a solution to the irritating "Audio Engine Failed to Load" error. (Surprising that MM customer support told me there wasn't a solution, though the solution was in their post of last December.) So the problem is with the iPhone (!) and Continuity C...

Re: New Mac OS

I have problems with F27 and Ventura on my laptop when the screen goes to sleep. I get the alert that the audio engine has failed to load. Finale still works, but without playback. I still do all my work on F26.

I tested with Perfect Layout and v26 and it did not fix that issue, which surprised me.

Re: entering multiple grace notes

Peter, I was trying to figure out the problem the OP was having, as were you. I am testing on 27, not 26. It looks like the grace note is on the beat if there is just one, but OP was asking about 3 grace notes and I haven't been able to figure out a way to get them on the beat. An articulation such ...

Peter,

Curious to know -- does it work on the beat for you? If so, could you post a snippet that works?

Re: Upgraded to v27 But it Saves to 2012 musx

I assume you've taken the routine first steps -- reboot Finale, and if that doesn't work, reboot computer.

Another long shot might be to Save As instead of Save.

Hopefully a Windows user will have further suggestions for you.

Are you saying that files created in v27 get saved as 2012? Or old files opened in v27?

Re: Remove flag leave stem?

Following on what Peter wrote, using the Custom Stem Tool you double-click the note and then replace the flagged stem with a plain stem. You'll probably need to create the plain stem in the Shape Designer, then when you place it, you will probably need to nudge it. It seems like a lot of fuss if you...

This might not be helpful as I am on a Mac, but when I add music to the end of your piece it beams correctly.

Re: importing mxl files from cpdl

I don't use CPDL but out of curiosity I downloaded a random Palestrina piece. The PDF looked pretty good, but the Finale file from XML would take a lot of work. So yes, "troublesome to say the least," unless you can make do with PDF.

If you are referring to the tool palette, on the Mac you shift-drag. I don't know if it's the same on Windows.

My guess is that you didn't actually mark it "pizza" and that is humorous auto-correct.

I didn't see the original. I saw some drum parts but not the score.

Re: System stuck on a specific page

Please clarify what you are looking for -- is it a blank page before the final page? The score looks fine to me as it is so I can't imagine why. If you need a blank page, follow Motet's instructions. If something else, circle back with more detail.

For me on both F26 and F27, no matter what Page View Style setting, when I reopen a file it is always Book Style: Row, even if I save preferences.

Have you tried the trick of exporting as XML and then importing that into a fresh file? Sometimes that will strip out problems.

Does it fail to start a new staff system in one score, or in every score? And if it's one score, is it one spot or every spot?

Can you post the score?

You don't have any instrument selected. Open the score manager and select one of the Smartsynths under device and something under sound.

Another approach is to enter the tablature in that spot and copy/paste that into notation.

Re: Error Notice

BuonTempi is correct that clicking return (sometimes repeatedly) allows you to keep working, but usually without playback, so if you need sound, re-launch is needed.

Finale is aware of this and I hope that some update of Finale or the OS will solve the problem.

Re: Error Notice

Finale Customer Service said that the problem might be that when the screen wakes up from sleep it creates the problem with the Audio Engine, so I set the screen to never go to sleep. But still when I close the laptop and reopen it, the problem still happens.

Re: Style guides for choral music?

To follow up on what BuonTempi wrote about breath marks, I agree that they often require discussion and I have found that it saves rehearsal time to notate all breaths as rests. It requires a little extra time on my end but definitely saves time in rehearsal.
