Re: Floating Ossias: strange phenomena

Or, do the ossia in another document, export it as a graphic, and place it in your score. Yes. The best would be: - create regular music - space it properly - deselect automatic music spacing - erase the regular music - type ossia - export ossia as graphic - Undo undo... until regular music appears...

A generated PDF file opened in Inkscape can be heavily manipulated.

In Inkscape you can move, resize and change color to all objects.

Re: PDF and PS problem

1. Problem: The problem is that I can't get A3 output at all from ps file. Finale generates wrong sized ps file. 2. Problem: Embedding pdf instead of eps doesn't solve it either. The only way is to do as wess said, to create document as pdf and than attach the picture (eps) in another software (InDe...

PDF and PS problem

Friends, I try to export a file to PDF, v25.5 on Mac. I have embedded an eps file, but with the command "Save as PDF" I get blurred eps picture. I have tried to export as PS file, but I get always wrong page size. So, my questions are: how to get embedded eps clearly displayed how to get proper page...

Scribus, InkScape, GIMP – In my opinion very good alternatives.

I think that you do everything correctly. The printer will stop if anything is wrong.

Re: Save File Fragment as Idea

Save as a new file(name) is the best solution.Or take a screenshot. Or export page. Or work in a scroll view and place your ideas on the end of the file, measure 1000.

Re: hairpin extending under 5/4 time signature

Finale can mess up all this, particularly when you have parts that break the system at different places than the score.
Than you get this ugly tiny "rest" of the hairpin in the next system.

So I never use that way, but just finish precisely on the barline, or just before.

Reset fonts in a file

Hello.
I have a file that is created with numerous custom fonts. It is impossible for me to know which was used for which item (and they are many!).
As earlier said, how can I list all fonts, and swap all chosen fonts with another ones?
Windows 10, v25.

Thank you.

Re: Staff style name to a grand staff

I think this is the way to do it. In the Staff Tool select the staves where you want the change, then Staff Menu > Groups and Brackets > Remove and only then Add… to create a new group with the desired name and bracket. It seems a bit convoluted, but if you go back and forth between more than one g...

remove .musx

I want to add into the footer the current filename (such as Section A v2), and I want it to be automatised, so to speak, using the filename as the "insert". That is important for me when new revisions are printed, so that it is always clear what version is in use. However, I don't want to have .musx...

Staff style name to a grand staff

I can change full and abbr. staff names using a Staff Style (for instance changing percussion names, or woodwinds aux instruments).

How can I do the same with grand staff - when I have two staves so I need to edit its name (for instance Piano becomes Cembalo, from measure A to measure B)?

Re: M.M.

So I guess putting M.M. 75 is not applicable. Put whatever you want. Good musicians will find a natural heartbeat in any worthwhile music which may differ from performer to performer. N. That is absolutely correct; I just didn't finish the sentence, now it is edited: So I guess putting M.M. 75 is n...

Re: M.M.

As you know, M. M. means "Mälzel's Metronome", named for the guy who said he invented the pendulum type back in Beethoven's day. He seems to have been quite a promoter and practically trademarked the thing. My metronome is a Dr. Beat DB88 and electronic, so I don't give the guy any credit; nor does...

Re: Versioning software

It works absolutely great under Win 10. All saved (or autosaved) documents are automatically backed up. A very good tool if something goes wrong, or you want to use a version that you cannot undo.

Versioning software

Friends, I have used Chrono Sync on Mac to make versioning of documents. It works good when used together with autosave, since it creates every new version of each autosave. Is there any equivalend on Windows? I remember I used one for a long time ago but I can't find it anymore. It was a free tool....

Re: M.M.

Agree with David.

In my opinion: music notation is the best when the "notational language" describes the complete music idea with fewest possible information.

Both "to little" or "to much" information is bad.

Re: Shortcut to move one staff upp or down

Don't know how/if it works on a Mac, but in Windows, using the Staff Tool, after selecting any staff, you can move it up and down with just the up/down arrow (at least on my keyboard). Another, very precise solution would be to use the Staff tool, then select the staff you want to move, then menu S...
