I could be wrong here, but I seem to recall that the PrintMusic demo is fully functional (= can save and print) for 30 days.peterqd wrote:Printing and saving is definitely supposed to be disabled in demos. I can't create new documents with the Windows version, so that's where your bug is I would think.

Character set question
What program are you using?
What version?
The full Finale has the dialog box Symbol Selection.
In Windows there is the accessory Character Map.
You could try that.

Corrupt file or corrupt finale
My copy of Finale 2010 crashes when trying to open the document. I only get the document icon in Cover Flow and Quicklook - no view of the document's music contents. My copy of Finale 2010 works fine on my own Finale documents. I think that this document is corrupt. Can you create new documents with...

Page format change in pages added to end of document
This happens anytime you add pages to a score after you have resized the existing pages. You can tell Finale to, automatically update the settings in "Page Format for Score" according to your resizing of existing pages. In that way all new pages added to the end of the score will have the same resi...

I'm not sure I recall correctly, but I think it is something like this in Finale 2004:
Page Layout Tool.
Go to
Options menu > Page Format > Score...
and set the page format for score as you want it.
Next, go to
Page Layout menu > Redefine Pages
and redefine the last four pages of your score.

Help with Speedy entry
Two questions:
1) Are you using a MIDI keyboard for note entry?
2) In the Speedy menu, is the menu item "Use MIDI Device for Input" selected?

Tieing notes that are not adjacent
Since this issue is a bit more complicated, I would separate layout and playback:
Enter the playback notes in a hidden layer.
For the layout, use slurs.

Chord Playback not accurate
Charisa, What version of Finale are you using? 1) I don't know of "a reference on the Interweb that defines the notes per chord", sorry. The Ab Major triad is indeed the notes Ab, C and Eb. 2) If a chord suffix sounds wrong, it will sound wrong in all 12 transpositions. You can edit the chord suffix...

Chord Playback not accurate
I'm not sure what you mean when you tell that the chord playback is not "accurate"?! 1) Do you mean that there are wrong playback notes, like e. g. a 7 chord playing back as a Maj7 chord? You can correct wrong chord suffix playback in the Chord Suffix Editor. 2) Or do you simply mean that there are ...

Hey guys, thanks for the replies; I really should check back here more often! (Or tick the "Notify me" box) The reason why the Document Options are document specific, is that you can have different settings in different documents. I don't think the majority of Finale users would like to loos...

Removal of staves where they are empty, is called "Optimization" in Finale lingo. When you optimize the page layout (Page Layout Tool), you enable "Allow Individual Staff Spacing" in all the systems. "Allow Individual Staff Spacing" also means "Allow Individual Staff Removing". Switch to the Staff T...

Fa Noteheads direction in Shaped Notation with Stems
...Is there anyway to link the shape to the stem direction? a plug-in? a special tool? the Editing with the shape tool really gets tedious when you have a whole hymnal of shaped notation to engrave. josefern,
Are you using GPO or SmartMusic SoftSynth?
I don't think that Finale can export GPO playback as MP3.
But you can export SmartMusic SoftSynth playback as MP3.
You can export GPO playback as WAV.
You can convert the WAV file to MP3 with third party software.

Mike, The full-Finale "Tie to 2nd ending" solution requires that the measure before the 2nd ending has a Back Ending (otherwise the tie won't appear at the beginning of the 2nd ending). Equal measure widths
If I understand you correctly, you want equal measure widths in all the measures.
To do so, go to
Document Options - Music Spacing
and set the same value for "Minimum Measure Width" and Maximum Measure Width".
Then apply Music Spacing, and Update Layout.
