Re: Keeping track of finale file versiony
Windows is different than Mac in many ways where Finale is concerned. On a Mac, you can specify all .musx to open in the version you want but you can't specify that all 2014 files open in 2014, 25 files in 25 etc. You can specify that individual files open in specific versions but there's no way to ...

Re: Wagner "Rheingold" in Finale
MusScore doesn't export to MusicXML as cleanly as anyone would like. Still it's useful to try and see what happens.

Re: Keeping track of finale file version
I have always used the most recent version without regard for what version a file was originally created in and never--ever (and I've been using Finale since F2002) encountered any sort of problem whatsoever. I think you are making unnecessary work for yourself. I agree and I've been using Finale l...

Re: Wagner "Rheingold" in Finale
There was some idiot near me that decided he could perform the entire ring cycle karaoke style. It received a lot of negative attention nationwide, so you might find him if you google "Wagner + Ring Cycle + Hartford". I believe he used Finale, so maybe he would sell you the file(s). I don't know wh...

Re: PDF eighth note flag anomaly
Do the Graphics Tool Export method On the official MM site there's an indication that Finale's Mac export to pdf is buggy When you say "Mac Export to PDF is buggy", do you mean Save As PDF, or Export Graphic as PDF, because the latter contradicts your previous statement. I see no contradiction in w...

Re: Lyrics + rhythmic notation for chord charts
I wouldn't use Photoshop for editing PDFs from Finale. For starters, you'll massively increase the filesize when you save as a bitmap image, and secondly, you've converted your crisp vectors to bitmap. Use a vector drawing package like Affinity Design or iDraw on the Mac, or Inkscape (free, open so...

Re: Lyrics + rhythmic notation for chord charts
I prefer to do this all in Finale, if possible. If you enter the rhythm for the lyrics in another layer, keep the option to hide the notes, but select the option to show the lyrics. If you don't want to have the notes play back, there are ways to accomplish that as well. Zuill Yep. That works and h...

Re: PDF eighth note flag anomaly
Do the Graphics Tool Export method above and see if that fixes you up for next time. It's a few extra steps but, if it works, it works. You can use Preview to glue pages together when necessary—if you don't know how, I'll post that (Acrobat Pro is so much faster but most people wouldn't buy it just ...

Re: Lyrics + rhytmic notation for chord charts
Hi. I'm wondering if there's any way to add lyrics to a chord chart containing rhythmic notation for a guitar strumming pattern. In other words, the staff contains the guitar rhythm, but I need to add lyrics below the guitar staff, which have a different rhythm. I've tried attaching the lyrics to a...

… Finale does give different results if you Save As PDF or if you Save As PostScript and then 'distill' the PS file, either with Adobe Distiller or Apple's Preview … Actually there is a third way which may - or may not - give a third, different result (depending on the Finale version): Graphics Too...

The O.P. has a Mac, Ron. Different animal. Does that mean that Finale pdf export works trouble-free on the Mac and that there are no other programs available for creating pdfs? Basically, yes. Doable per this old link that refers back to F-2012. Unfortunately, it's missing the graphics but it's the best I can find.

It's a Hail Mary but it might work. Sometimes paths become corrupted and need to be rebuilt—here's how on a Mac: Do a Safe Boot by holding the Shift key on startup. Eventually, you'll come to a login screen into your User account. Once in, it will rebuild all of your desktop icons. When done, restar...

Re: Printing to PDF
As you have discovered, both Finale's and Apple's page setup have to match. This is new to 25 and takes some getting used to.
Last time I looked at the Help files, they weren't accurate in this regard and only added to the confusion. I hope that MM gets that fixed.

Just make the mistake of writing it, however. In a chamber or solo piece, you're fine. In an orchestral or band arrangement, every flute player will take it upon him/herself to point out to you that no one will hear it.motet wrote:It's fairly common.
