I think it's Engraver versus Maestro rather than Mac versus Windows.

Re: Trill B-natural C
This is how I'd do it. The trill/natural should be in Smart Shape Tool > Custom Line Selection.

Re: Creating pdf uses the name of another file
… … OTOH, I rarely have two files open simultaneously. The problem is specific to having one Finale file fully open and another minimized in the dock. I do not make a habit of doing this, but when I tried by way of experiment I got the behaviour reported. Having two Finale files fully open at the s...

Re: selecting right speakers
In Finale you have to go to MIDI/Audio > Device Setup > Audio Setup… and then select the appropriate Bluetooth device rather than Built-in Output (and also remember to reverse this as an when necessary).

Re: OT: crotchet = quaver
There are actually two schools of thought as to whether it should be written crotchet = quaver or quaver = crotchet, but I think the latter is more accepted, since each note goes over its respective measure; so (old) quaver = (new) crotchet. I think the rule is that lined up horizontally with the f...

Re: how to delete an entire content of a layer
I can tell you how do do it on a Mac. Something related will surely apply to Windows. On a Mac with a full keyboard including numeric pad: 1) Make sure that the layer whose contents you want to delete is the active layer. 2) Show active layer only (Document Menu). 3) Select all. 4) Clear with the nu...

Re: OT: notation of duplets/quadruplets in compound time
does this mean that I have to change my duplets of eighths to duplets of quarters to fill a single beat? Strictly, yes. In theory (but not always practice) a tuplet is supposed to add up to too much if it were not a tuplet. However, the most important thing is to be consistent - so either 2 eighths...

Re: Updating staff layout on subsequent pages
Zuill's suggestion will I suspect change the size of the staves themselves. If you want to keep the smaller stave size, but space them more widely, then in the Staff Tool select all except the top staves in the subsequent systems then try this. Staff menu > Respace Staves enter an appropriate figure...

Re: Tremolo position?
If those tremolos are divisi, which I hope they are, there should be a tremolo mark above the top voice and an additional one below the bottom voice, each centered on the notehead. I'm not sure it's really necessary, when the rhythm is simple and the same in the two parts, to have the tremolo both ...

… … … … Luckily we are not all alike. I suspect you may be right in all you say. However, it's difficult for those who like me have minimal business sense to judge whether or not Finale on a touch screen might become a necessary development to keep the company afloat and profitable. I can say it wo...

This is a wild, ill-informed guess, but have you tried the User Library? To get there click on Go in the Finder menu with the Option or Alt key depressed and then click Library > Application Support > Make Music > Finale.

Re: Stretching Beam and hiding rests
I think the answer is to go to Plug-ins > Note, Beam, and Rest Editing > Move Rests… and then to apply some large number eg 200. This should move the rests vertically right off the page, to become in effect invisible but without the result you get from hiding them. You can restore the rests to their...

OCTO, I can now confirm that just about everything is hopelessly slow with your file on my desktop Mac (also using 10.12.6, but with spinning HD and large portrait monitor). In comparison, the only problem with the MacBook appears to be the rather debilitating one already mentioned when trying to mo...
