Re: Constantly Updating Screen
Why did you turn Automatic Update Layout off, out of curiosity? I never have to type Ctrl-U, though I'm on Windows.

Re: dragging
You've got a giant bottom margin on the last system on page 11. I'm not sure why it worked for Bill, unless he's unchecked "Avoid Margin Collision" (which I don't recommend here). "Go to the Page Layout tool and drag the handle shown below upwards to make the margin like the other systems on that pa...

Re: Constantly Updating Screen
Turning off "Automatic Update Layout" really should be removed from Finale entirely.

Re: Music Spacing Libraries
The libraries are just various presets of the various settings in Document Options / Music Spacing, which are consulted whenever you space music. If you want to see what they do, load them and see how the values change (be sure to look at Spacing Widths) as well.

Re: Same Staff for Bells&Cymbals
I thought your question was now to put bells and cymbal on the same staff. I don't use Garritan or the Aria player, so I don't know why your playback doesn't work.

The Ossia tool hasn't been worked on in decades and has other problems as well. I think most people nowadays add the extra staff.

Re: Lost Documents
Use Windows Explorer to look around for X.asvx and X.bakx, where X is the name of your .musx file. .asvx is preferable, as it's more likely to have your latest changes.

Re: Courtesy natural in key signature
Well, Finale's internal logic shouldn't influence the notation it produces. It's true that cancelling the old notation down to ground zero and then stating the new one makes some logical sense, but musical notation is not a computer language, and I've never seen something like this in print, so I th...

Re: Courtesy natural in key signature
Seems to be a bug. Only happens if there's a mode change. Hector's bug aside, has anyone seen this notation of cancelling and then reintroducing the same sharp or flat when there's a mode change? "Behind Bars" doesn't mention it, and I don't think I've ever seen it. It's odd that there's not an opti...

Re: Courtesy natural in key signature
Here's what it does switching from G major to B minor:
Silly, indeed (in my opinion). But if I move the B minor measure to a new system and hide the cautionary in the first measure's attributes, there's no natural, so perhaps you've done something wrong.

Re: Courtesy natural in key signature
I think Finale does things like this switching between major and minor. What you've posted seems silly. I always use major keys in the key signature dialog, even if it's minor. I guess there are advantages in making enharmonic choices with MIDI entry if you tell it it's a minor key, but meh. If that...

Re: Edit only the parts
From the manual: Changes to pitches and rhythms in the part or score always apply to the other. Changes to the definition of markings (e.g., changing expressions from p to f ) in the part or score always apply to the other. A change to the positioning or shape of any marking in the part unlinks that...

Re: Don't beam when tied
I could be wrong, but I don't think that JW Change can invoke other JW plug-ins, and JW Change itself doesn't seem to address beam breaks.
Even if MakeMusic was on the ball and eager to implement suggestions, the chances of them implementing this would still be small since it's non-standard.

Re: Don't beam when tied
Alas, there doesn't seem to be a "manual beam breaks" in the copy filter, but JW Rhythm copy might be of use. It might be a bit cumbersome because it only does one copy at a time, but perhaps combined with macros.

Re: Not to complain too much, but...
I find it amusing that the ads sometimes feature outdated versions of Finale (v. 25) or Finale books (Finale 2014).
