ud dude, 1) You could use Finale's Key Signature Tool to set up a quartertone key signature. See the attached files (in Finale 2010 format). The 3 key signatures are all created from the same quartertone key signature, by changing the "Amount" for the first flats from -1 (quarterstep flat) to -2 (ha...

PDF to finale
Take a look at this web site:
http://www.myriad-online.com/en/products/index.htm
If you just need playback, PDFtoMusic is sufficient.
If you need layout, go for PDFtoMusic Pro.

Take a look at the attached files.
They show/explain how to create a key signature with quartertones.
The .mus document doesn't play back correctly, but you tell that you are only interested in layout, not playback.

Intensity of black and colours
Actually, this is already possible - with the workaround that you combine Finale with another program: From Finale, "print" to a PDF file (or a PostScript file). Open the PDF file in a vector graphics editor, and edit the colour of the individual elements. You can use a free program, like Inkscape, ...

Re: Multimeasure Rests
for the mulitmeasure rests it looks fine when i'm on Finale 2010, but when i try to print it (either on paper or pdf) it expands and actually shows all the bars of rest. how do i change it so when i print it, it actually prints the multimeasure rests? If I understand you correctly, the multimeasure...

PrintMusic 2010 misplaces chord symbols
Two ideas (however, I have the full Finale, and I don't know whether the options mentioned below are available in PrintMusic): 1) You can move selected chord symbols to the default position by hitting the Clear key (= the key above the number '7' key on the NumPad). To select all the chord symbols o...

As far as I know, the vertical positioning of the rhythmic notation remains fixed for the whole piece, as defined in the Document options->Alternate notation... I could be wrong here, but As Far As I Know, the vertical positioning of the rhythmic notation can be adjusted "locally" via a staff style...

Here's a simpler way (in Finale 2009): Text Tool. Double-click on the page to create a text block. Text menu > Inserts > Part/Score Name When you have created linked parts, go to view each part via the Document menu: Document menu > Edit Part > You will see that the above mentioned text block displa...

I suspect that there is an easier way for you, but we need more information.the4freds wrote:...Why can't it just include the part name automatically when you print?
What version of Finale are you using?
In my copy of Finale 2010 the Measure Tool doesn't have 'staff names in parts', and 'staff names in score'.

We need more info, like e. g. - The instrument names don't print. Do the instrument names appear on the computer screen in Page View in the score? Do the instrument Names appear on the computer screen in Page View in the linked parts? The fastest way to provide us with info is probably that you uplo...

Re: Multimeasure rests when extracting parts
Hello, when I extract parts, multimeasure rests will not appear, even when checking the option "create multimeasure rests" in the part creation preferences. I took a look at your document. The reason why you don't get multimeasure rests in the extracted parts (even if you have selected the option "...

Multipeasure rests when extracting parts
There are multiple possible culprits. just to mention a few: - The measures aren't empty because the whole rests in them are real whole rests, not default whole rests. Fix: use the plug-in "Change to Default Whole Rests". - The measures aren't empty because there's a staff style applied to them. - T...

Extracting files causing crash
It sounds like the files became corrupted when Finale PrintMusic "unexpectedly quit", so the best solution is probably a backup copy of the score. Two ideas: 1) Does PrintMusic make backups when saving files? If so, open the backup copy of the score. The backup copy might not contain the latest edit...

Hiding Staves
1) With the command "View menu > Program Staff Set" you will only hide staves on the computer screen. The hidden staves will still be in the layout/print. A "staff set" can be useful if you e. g. want to compare the top staff and the bottom staff in a score with 24 staves. 2) To get the command "Pro...

Tempo Primo
You can write Tempo 1º in most text fonts - the abbreviation 1º is not used solely in music notation. The small superscript 'o' is a special font character. Mac text fonts have the glyph located in slot #188. I don't know, in which slot Windows text fonts have the glyph. You should be able to find t...

Actually, the Chord Tool does have a function for a second chord row. But it's not as convenient as the "two staff" solution I described above: If all the chords - both the untransposed chords and the capo chords - are assigned to the same staff, you can't select and change in one go only all the ca...

Quarter tones question
Silly me! I wrote: "To get the transposition correct you must double the number of steps, since a quartertone key signature divides the octave into 24 steps. Re: Quarter tones question
...I got two problems with quarter tones: I used the key signature tool to define quartertones and their correct symbols.
