Re: Placement of fermatas and expressions/articulations
Absolutely No.1. That's where the musician would expect the items to be. … but maybe not a singer. Usually dynamics, expressions &c are placed above a vocal stave, the libretto (lyrics) go below. It's not an absolute rule, but it IS where a singer would usually expect to find such things. In this c...

Re: Getting Text to Show up by Part Only
I'm not sure it's necessarily the best solution, but I use measure attached text for stage directions. One has to make sure they are attached to something that won't disappear if 'optimized' (as it used to be called), copy them appropriately into the vocal score &c &c &c.

Re: Which is it?
Can anybody tell me definitively whether or not the term Contra-Alto Clarinet is ever used here in the UK? There is certainly a confusing difference in the terminology for certain brass instruments between the UK and the US. eg The E flat instrument called an Alto Horn in the US, Germany and certain...

I have used + to indicate the thumb on cello (when I wanted to specify the fingering in a cadenza).motet wrote:I believe 0 is also commonly used in cello writing to indicate the thumb when playing way up on the fingerboard.

Re: Positioning a trem. sign under centre of note
One way to centre them: if you're in F 25 open the file in F 2014.5, select the region and apply the JW Yada Yada Tremolo plugin.
(Let's hope the JW plugins are soon all available for F 25 on Mac, until then I'm sticking to 2014.5.)

Re: Which is it?
I think virtually all professional orchestral players of the bass clarinet in the UK nowadays have an instrument that can go as low as that Shostakovich example, and I suspect that this is probably much the same in the US. I notice that Gould on page 540 of her book lists the standard scoring for wi...

Re: Which is it?
FWIW I've always known of the instrument as the E flat Contrabass clarinet. I think the choice of name largely depends on the country, even if English speaking.

Re: Printing with v25 is not completely black
On a ‘retina’ screen, if I sit back (not too close), the notehead uploaded by abutenko14 in a PDF made from F 25 does look noticeably less black than the other.BuonTempi wrote:I can't see a significant difference between the noteheads. The only difference I can see is the shaded edge.… …

Re: tuplets
You can also after keying Option-3, first enter the note value that defines the triplet and then back-space and change that first note to the value you need: the definition will remain what you first entered, but now the first note can be of different length. (The explanation is more convoluted than...

Re: Need someone to pass my .musx file in his version
Sorry, but I get an error saying, "This site can’t be reached: luckers.pl’s server DNS address could not be found." I was able to download it (having changed '.DOT.com' to '.com'), and I can read the Finale file on screen. However, there are also notes missing (and other oddities) in playback via t...

Re: Staff tool glitch?
Strangely, I recently had one page in a full score file (a scene from an opera) which behaved in this way, while the pages both before and after behaved correctly. I don't know why, and there's nothing specially different about the contents or layout of the offending page that I can see.

Re: Entering 128th notes
There are some very short note values in the Beethoven piano sonatas and variations. Even his middle period Eroica Variations have at least one 5 x beamed group (128ths), although I think these short values are commoner in his later pieces.miker wrote:Who is going to play them?
