Did the VST you downloaded have both 32 and 64bit versions? If so, make sure you're pointing to the right one.

They provide their own player, and it will work with Finale like any other VSTi. No, Aria won't play it.

I think it's unlikely that a feature update would affect a driver that's been working. You can always try it, and roll back Windows if there's an issue.

BTW, ASIO4ALL is not a Steinberg product, and is a choice of last resort. A Card's native ASIO is always to be preferred.

OK, let's go step by step. I don't have Halion installed, so we'll look at Kontakt.

Open Native Access
Click on the Installed Products tab on the left
Find and click on Kontakt
Click on Installation Path in the detail pane on the right
Write down the VST64 Location

First you need to let Finale know where the plugins located. Go to MIDI/Audio, Device setup, Manage VST Plugin Directories and add the locations. Where are the locations you might ask? That's the rub. You would have seen the default locations during setup. I create my own VST folders, so can't help ...

Does it work in standalone mode?

If you have Finale on your taskbar you can just right click on that to get the recent files list.

Are you able to use Play standalone, rather than in Finale?

I's difficult to help with the information you've given. Try to go step by step to where the "crash" happens. Also, what do you mean by crash?

How much RAM? What version of Play?

Rest assured that it does work once everything is setup properly.

Fin25 is 64bit, so your plugin would need to be also.

Have you run a ReWire enabled application in the mean time? That will generate the Error code 7, and you need to go to Audio/MIDI - Device setup and reset ReWire.

That's true of the wider world of VSTi instruments. But the SmartMusic SoftSynth you play through MIDI is the same as the SmartMusic SoftSynth you play through VST; both synthisized instrument sounds. Garritan is sampled sounds, though RAM usage there is also minuscule.

I don't think there's any functional difference between the MIDI SoftSynth and the VST SoftSynth , so if that works I'd just go with it.

Are you using the same audio settings for all the versions?
