Can we write text on top of a placed image?
Any way to add a block of text on top of a placed JPG image? Finale automatically sends the text to the back of the image.

Re: How do I get a grand staff for marimba and still pick all the nonpitched perc for later sections?
In Score Manager, select an instrument with the staff system you want (Instrument drop-down menu); then from the Device drop-down menu, choose Garritan, SmartMusic or a plug-in you might have installed. From the Sound drop-down menu, choose any instrument you want. If you expand the system in the Na...

Re: Chord symbols on repeats
You may already know that both the handle of the diagram and the handle of the chord name must be highlighted before dragging the two by the upper handle, so that both the name and diagram move together. If opting to create additional chords in another measure and drag them back, they will snap to t...

Can we have two time signatures in an ensemble?
I have a score with all the instruments in 3/4 but want one instrument in 6/8 (Drum Set). When I changed the time in the D.S. track to 6/8, the time in all the other also changed to 6/8. Is it possible to independently assign a time signature to one staff system, without altering the others?

Re: Playback duration of a note too short
The steps you kindly shared did not work for me. But thanks for offering to help. I also tried changing the bank. My love-hate relationship with Finale continues, a wonderful program but sooooo unstable.

Re: Any way to transpose pitch up a minor second?
I am unable to upload the file as it exceeds the 145KB limit. All the glissandos were created as SmartShapes. I added the instrument again, copied and pasted the notation into the new staff. This solved the issue. I then deleted the problematic instrument. Since then I have closed the document and c...

Re: Any way to transpose pitch up a minor second?
There is three glissandos in the bass track but much later in the score. I would be most interested to learn what causes Finale to detune an instrument, always down a little greater than one semitone. I recall changing the melody in the bass part, auditing each edit. After about a dozen modification...

Re: Any way to transpose pitch up a minor second?
I added a hidden expression that did raise the pitch up a minor 2nd. But the instrument is still about a quarter tone below the other instruments in the ensemble. So the defective pitch must have been slightly larger than a semitone. But thanks for lending a hand. Looks like I will have to use anoth...

Re: Any way to transpose pitch up a minor second?
The Repitch tool does not change the pitch of a note without altering the note. So I tried the JW Change Pitch tool, which also transposes the notes. In audio engineering, all DAWs and audio editors distinguish between the two. If the Speedy Frame Editor includes pitch modification, it is well hidde...

Any way to transpose pitch up a minor second?
I am persuaded that Finale supports only so many edits, after which it becomes unstable. After several rewrites of a part, the bass line in my ensemble began to play back one semitone below concert pitch. I have suffered this bug before and resolved it by changing the instrument. But on this occasio...

Re: Playback duration of a note too short
Inserting a new page and re-writing the notation also fails: the document seems to be indelibly corrupted. I think a solution might be to create a fresh document, copy all the notation--except that in the erratic one--and paste it into the new document. In the future, I will create a backup copy of ...

Re: Playback duration of a note too short
I did try deleting the other voices, but the problem persisted. Writing the identical parts in another measure did not create the problem. The issue appears to be a corrupted measure. If cutting out the faulty measure then copying and inserting a healthy one in its place lets me write and play an A4...

Re: Playback duration of a note too short
Thanks for taking a look. Below is what appears in Score Manager on my system. Fortunately I resolved the matter by clicking on Undo, until at the point before the problem surfaced. The issue I had appeared at the point where I flipped the note ties. I opted to change the melody as a workaround but ...

Re: Playback duration of a note too short
Attached is the staff with the A4 note in the first measure that erroneously plays back as a quarter note instead of a whole note as written. If the A4 note is moved up or down to a different pitch, the duration of the note plays back correctly. Note that a different instrument is assigned to layer ...

Playback duration of a note too short
I have a whole note in a measure that erroneously plays back as a quarter note. I checked the "Edit Frame" attributes, and the duration is 4096. I cleared the MIDI data in the measure, without success. I also wrote the note in a healthy measure that played correctly then copied and pasted the measur...

Re: Viola solo playback not in tune
I often experience the problem you describe but only in edited tracks (Finale loathes editing). Choosing another HP style has never fixed such an issue for me. Clearing the MIDI Data from start to end sometimes resolves the problem as does assigning the instrument to a new bank. What always works is...

Re: Unable to remove vibrato effect
I closed Finale and rebooted my computer, but the vibrato effect remains. I believe it is a bug as the problem can be replicated. Assigning another instrument with channel pressure to a note for a vibrato effect is irreversible as it permanently affects the bank. By selecting the next available bank...

Re: Unable to remove vibrato effect
I discovered that a bank on my system gets indelibly corrupted by adding an expression with channel pressure, for I can replicate the issue. Since I record my scores live and use the playback solely for auditing and for reference to timing correction (with Melodyne or Ableton), I can live with the l...

Re: Unable to remove vibrato effect
Attached is page 1 of the score. The vibrato effect was added to a note on page 5 but imposed itself on the entire document. Removing the effect as well as deleting the indication in the Expression tool failed to remove the vibrato. Assigning the instrument to the next available bank in Score Manage...

Unable to remove vibrato effect
In the middle of a score, I added an expression with channel pressure set to 127 for a vibrato effect, after which I created another expression (suano ord.) with channel pressure set to zero to terminate the effect. Since the latter fails to end the effect, I deleted the two expressions; but the vib...
