Re: Windows 10, Version 2004 upgrade
I keep Windows 10 up to date and haven't had a problem, except for some playback oddities with Finale 2014.5 that I've complained about here but have been able to work around. I've got Finale 2005b still installed and use it occasionally to fix a wrong note, and it seems to basically work.

Re: Tempo marking incorrect with dotted quarter
If you insert a quarter note in the expression dialog with that Broadway copyist font, it looks like this, which is likely why the one that's defined doesn't work. Nobody thought to test it, I guess. So you need to set it explicitly in the playback tab.

Re: Roman Numeral Analysis - Cadential I64 to V bracket?
In case Zuill doesn't return soon, ctrl-Click on the custom SmartShape icon (it looks line an asterisk in a hexagon). There's already a shape that's almost what you want. Change the V endpoint to point the other way (in typical Finale fashion what you want is the opposite of what's shown!). It will ...

Re: Roman Numeral Analysis - Cadential I64 to V bracket?
If you don't mind the top of the V being closed, you can specify a character for the middle of a SmartShape, I used something from the Symbol font here. It has the advantage of staying in the middle no matter how wide you make the line. But Zuill's look better.

Re: Tempo marking incorrect with dotted quarter
Yes, the Playback tab dialog is poorly laid out--it looks like Type is a subheading of Match, but it's one or the other. Should be two radio buttons instead of a checkbox. Back to the original problem, are you sure you didn't insert a quarter note when creating the mark and then typed the dot, rathe...

The best way would be if you can attach your file, or part of it exhibiting the problem, here.

Re: Staff set snafus
I will check out that plug-in, David--thanks. In which version? Regarding changing the Staff Set, possibly your approach needs changing. since we don't know what that is, I might suggest my approach: Go back to the Score and Select the staves you had, minus the one you are wanting left out, and repr...

Staff set snafus
A couple of unexpected things trying to use staff sets. 1) While viewing a staff set, f you try to use either the MM or TG cue-notes plug-in to write a cue of one member of the staff set into the over member of the staff set, it doesn't work. TG silently does nothing. MM says there's a problem: "It'...

Re: Play expressions and articulations when not starting from m1
I'm not an HP user, so I'm basically ignorant. I seem to remember that HP is ignored if you start with Ctrl-click. If you're doing that, use the playback control instead.

Re: Calculations to do with printing cost for music
I think the coverage of music is much more than 5%, so you'll get far fewer pages per toner cartridge. It will still be much cheaper than inkjet printing, though.

Re: bracket direction
To answer your original question, when you create the bracket, note which way the arrow points; you want it pointing down at the bottom staff, not at the top.

Re: Setting up spacing to avoid "crowded measures"
Thanks for reporting it. I'm guessing the average MM support person doesn' t know from Edit Frame, but hopefully they'll log it and perhaps a future owner will fix it.
There are easy work-arounds, of course; worse, it trips up the unsuspecting.

I got the Maestro Times # into the File Info title by pasting it in. The Alt- sequence doesn't work in Finale.

Re: MIDI file problem
Check the MIDI import options, I guess. If you want to post one of your MIDI files here, we could try it. I have no experience with importing MIDI. I tried importing this, which I found at kunstderfuga.com, which is supposed to be the first of Bach's Two-Part Inventions. At least it created something!

Re: Setting up spacing to avoid "crowded measures"
Thanks for the sleuthing. 683 is a third of a half note--the combined value of those eighth rests the tuplet dialog creates?. Finale normally never stores such values, instead using only powers of 2 and a tuplet flag (pointing to some other structure describing the tuplet, I'm assuming). Creating th...

Re: Setting up spacing to avoid "crowded measures"
If you first delete the rests created by the tuplet dialog, the problem doesn't happen. But I recall other instances where if you delete the rests, especially if the tupet is at the end of the measure, mischief of a different sort ensues. Can anyone clear this up? So I've always advised people not t...

Re: Setting up spacing to avoid "crowded measures"
I entered the first eighth note of a triplet, then with Alt+9 set up "3 eighths in the space of 1 quarter." After completing the triplet, I was left with a stray rest: 0669.png I then skipped past this rest with the arrow key, entered an eighth note and a quarter note. So far, so good. 0667.png But ...
