Re: Copying lyrics into other "layers"

Does it really matter which verse the lyrics are in? You can change the baseline of verse 2 to be the same as verse 1. I do this all the time in larger works like operas; I put each aria into a separate verse to keep the lyrics window from getting too full, and then I just adjust the baselines of th...

Re: Measure numbers house style?

When you import XML files, Finale will use your default file as a template. You can let this happen and then copy (actually insert) these notes into a blank file with your measure numbers set up. Finale shouldn't change them.

Re: Setting Tempo in v26

The Tempo Tool has been deemed redundant and has been removed. Finale reacts to the tempo in the playback window as its last port of call. It reacts to expressions with a defined tempo first. Check your expressions to make sure that only one of them is set to a playback tempo. Sometimes there can be...

Re: Insert Sharp and Save As shortcuts have same key binding

Command-Shift-S has [almost] always been the key command for Save As in Finale and it still is in a number of other Mac applications. Now that particular key command functions contextually in two different settings. If you are viewing a document with any of the tools selected except for the Text Too...

Re: Spacing in pickup measure

Most seasoned Finale users don't use the Pickup Measure function at all. Instead, it works better and more predictably to create a time signature with the value of the upbeat and set it to show as the time signature after the pickup measure. So, if you have a quarter note upbeat in 4/4 time, give th...

Re: Organizing beats in measures

If you're making bass parts by deleting the others, you're missing an important feature of a program like Finale, i.e. the ability to create linked parts which are always available, which always reflect any changes you make, and which have ideal spacing of their own.

QuickLook mystery in Mac's Finder

I find QuickLook handy for viewing files [more or less] quickly from the Finder. For some reason, on my main computer I get the QuickLook preview but on my laptop I only get a generic Finale icon. I've looked in the three different library folders on both computers: the one in the root directory (wh...

Did you create your page numbers using the menu item Text/Inserts? If so, just under that menu item there's another called Edit Page Offset which will shift the page numbers by any amount you wish.

Re: Dashed barlines problem/bug

I do everything in EVPUs, which I prefer to units which require many numbers behind the decimal point. Here they are, from thin to thick: Staff lines: 2.5 Stems: 3 Ledger lines: 3.5 Barlines: 4 Personally I prefer my ledger lines to be slightly thicker than the stems, but one could consolidate these...

Re: Dashed barlines problem/bug

Indeed, when will MM get this right? The settings for Finale's default documents have the bar lines, stem lines and staff lines all at the same thickness, with only the ledger lines being slightly thicker. This sets a bad precedent.

Re: Dashed barlines problem/bug

One possibility is that those two staves belong to a group and you have them set to an alternate barline in Group Attributes. This would override any setting in the Measure Attributes window.

If you select Update Page Layout for Score, any edits you make to pages (system and page margins, etc.) will be automatically changed in the Document/Page Format window. Also handy.

Re: Moving measures

AFAIK, that's exactly why it was an option in the 90s, when formatting files and redrawing the screen were slow, laborious processes. We even set Finale to work overnight extracting parts. If you ask me, it's a big mistake on MM's part to keep it as a program option. Puzzled and angry complaints fro...

Re: Moving measures

Indeed, NEVER deselect Automatic Update Layout unless you really know what you're doing and are meticulous in your Finale habits. If you don't update your layout, you cannot see what the final results of formatting will be. Besides, Finale always updates the layout, whether you want it to or not, at...

Thanks for responding, Mike, also on the other forum. As I said there, ironically, I'd almost prefer a bug I can reproduce than one which rears its ugly head only occasionally but in unexpected circumstances.

Re: Repeat tool bug in v. 26?

P.P.S.S. I just tried something else. In a file which wouldn't let me select repeat ending handles, I tried clearing all items but the repeat endings. I was then able to select the handles and they remained selectable even after undoing the clear. They still deselected after one nudge, though. Curio...

Re: Repeat tool bug in v. 26?

P.S. Just noticed that the inability to select handles by clicking on them isn't with all files, but I've no idea why some repeat endings behave this way and some don't. This also goes for the nudging with the arrow keys. If I'm only able to select handles by click-dragging, they are the ones which ...

Repeat tool bug in v. 26?

I just noticed that I am no longer able to select individual repeat ending handles by clicking on them. They only select by click-dragging. In addition, once I have the handles selected, using the arrow keys to nudge the repeat ending deselects the handles instantly. I can only move repeat endings b...

It might be very interesting to a number of users here (including myself) to know your findings when finishing a file in v. 26 which was started in v. 25, as well as how the file behaves when being subsequently reopened in v. 25.

Re: Print parts loses fit measures

I certainly wouldn't want Finale to add blank pages to parts automatically. If, however, you want title pages, you only have to create the text boxes in the score. Blank pages added to the parts will retain these texts. Same with formatting: I often need different spacing algorithms for different pa...

Re: Version 26 released

I know this isn't a selling point for you but increased speed of operations on the Mac is worth it for me. In the past I made most of my manual adjustments to articulations because Finale didn't position them properly in the first place so I'm happy with that new feature. I'll still have to check ev...

When I went through the whole rigamarole on MM's website, they listed the $149 price and in addition there was a field for US Sales Tax. I would have provided a screen shot of the window but I can no longer reproduce it because now the website is saying that I don't have any upgrade authorisations. ...

Re: Finale 26 and TGTools pro

I'd originally included a remark about needing the newest version, but I deleted it, as we've already needed the 64-bit version for several iterations of Finale. It's good to mention, though, as I don't know which Finale version Rimas is coming from.
