Or you can add smart shapes by selecting a region and execute a script, here's an example for slurs.

Re: Making Smart Shapes Appear in All Parts

How can I link the horizontal dotted line so that it appears in all the parts? One solution: don't use a Smart Shape. Instead, create a new expression in the "Tempo" category which consists of a single hyphen: "-" (without quotes). Put together the dashed line by inserting this expression multiple ...

Re: Does your Finale saturate the CPU?

If you have a 32-bit Windows machine, and you start the Windows task manager (control-alt-delete-Start Task Manager), and you start any simple Finale playback, what percentage of all CPU time does your Finale use? Nearly none, as my sounds are produced by external synthesizers. Of course, if you ha...

Re: Dynamics not being recognized

You have several options of narrowing down the error to its source. E.G. reduce the score to only one staff/measure, copy individual measures/staves of the score to a new document or lead Finale's MIDI data through a MIDI monitor to see which data gets sent effectively.

Re: Rectangular cells for improvisation

How do you best adjust the alignment of this box? I used the pointer tool but it broke it apart line by line. The box ended up w/ some collisions and not how I'd like it positioned. The size of the box depends on the size of the measure and the entered values in the dialog. Thus, if Finale's layout...

Re: Youtube Playback ID error message when Finale is open.

I am unable to get audio from other apps if Finale is running. I don't know if there's anything you can do--I suspect Finale is mis-programmed. That works on my system. All audio streams get mixed, each one gets its own fader in the Windows mixer window. I use a Focusrite Saffire audio interface; I...

Re: Faster way than the MIDI tool?

You could create a new articulation like staccato, which sets the note duration to 90%. You could apply that (invisible) articulation to all notes in your score and check later, whether the 90% work or if any other value is more appropriate. By changing that value you have an individual, faster and ...

Re: changing copyright easily

Not sure how much you know JW Lua, but this is possible with it. I've never personally written a script that will add/change text boxes on every open file, but it might be worth looking into. So here's my proposal. "Search and Replace Text Blocks.lua" searches for text in all page text blocks in al...

Re: changing copyright easily

In every case, it's not so easy to write a reliable solution in FinaleScript; and yes, it will probably take significantly more time to do it in JWLua. I tend to think that for a non-code-addict it might be the easiest to open each file seperately. But it depends on how many files we're talking abou...

|| : .............. | | ................ : || | ................ : || Question: I know that a forward-repeat barline is not usually required at the opening bar of a piece, but in this case, would you agree that one is needed? I would not agree. You can omit the first repeat. But the last (=closing)...

So what's the solution then? I would be very interested, please share that solution with us. Thanks in advance.

Re: Vector graphics blurry

BTW, you can use the script Formes d'onde et boucles (JW Lua) which creates wavy lines as user shapes. It has lots of parameters for different wavy shapes. Using that, you could avoid the whole issue of importing graphics, if it's allowed to discard the original graphic and to re-create it in Finale...

Re: Playback Does Not Start

A visual cursor not advancing occurs when Finale waits for external MIDI synchronization (MIDI Time Code = „MTC“). I‘m not at home and can‘t say where that is located exactly. Maybe this option is selected?

Another option is to use a JW Lua Script on Elbsound.studio: https://elbsound.studio/jw-lua-scripts.php (script #11) Thanks for pointing to a script of mine; the direct link is this one . Since I wrote the script, a user uttered the need for colored boxes . This can't be done by this script, as it ...

Re: Piano composers, unite!

Using JWLua is a tall order unless you're a serious software type. Well, I think I wouldn‘t count as a serious software guy, as I don‘t have any formal/academic education in that field. I teach trombone and piano and work as a freelancing musician. But I do code since my youth, and this applies to ...

Re: Piano composers, unite!

Why are the piano-specific functions in Finale so convoluted and unhelpful? Please think about this and implement. Pedal markings take WAY too long to choose and place. And some other things require ridiculously long workarounds. For example, an apreggiated (as in guitar strum) chord takes these st...

That's interesting and amazing how many trombonists are among the users here. Is it due to the fact that there are so few gig possibilities for us trombonists that we write music instead :) ? Nevertheless, the Massenet Meditation is a good suggestion for trombone. Never played it on trombone, I only...

Re: Is there an Android app that can read .mus or .musx files?

The .MUS file format is proprietary to MakeMusic. They don't publish that format and don't produce Android or iOS apps. In their Feature Request Forum, there was a very clear response that no iOS app is planned. I would think that the same is valid for Android. Save your files as MusicXML. There are...

I have a string part, all in long-note tremolo, pp. I would like certain moments to receive a slight emphasis. It's not an accent, it's just adding a tiny bit more weight on that first beat . would it be understood if I added a tenuto line above the note? (which already has the tremolo articulation...

Laborious, but true. Would be a nice JWLua task to find out how long an analysis number is valid and to extend the word extension line automatically...this isn't the background of your question, Nick, by any chance ;) ?
