Re: Extending secondary beams over rests

Alas, I was hoping not to have to. Since I've got more of these than the full beams over rests, I may stick with the smart line solution. I've always thought that what you see should have priority in Finale. Since the Voice 1 and Voice 2 rests look the same, the placement should be the same. Of cou...

Re: Extending secondary beams over rests

This is my solution. "Solution" doesn't mean that it is OK for MM to neglect this problem. https://youtu.be/iAuY6PogPd0 I never thought of this! I like this "solution". Although it's not a solution, it's workaround. But I like it still. Does this method result in exactly the same note spacing as th...

Re: Extending secondary beams over rests

Yep, the default options are all unsatisfactory. I wrote to MM years ago with a feature request about this but it obviously slipped through the cracks. Yes, that is one of the features often found in music. I have really no idea why it is not included in Finale, or even considered after so many yea...

Re: MM Feature requests

Dear friends, it is fantastic how you develop this thread. My initial question was "what does MM with all feature requests, except assigning them a number?" - if anyone can see it?? Not being a pythoness, I can't see otherwise. There is no peep from MM either. They have FB, Twitter, Blog, Forum, Sit...

Re: Hiding Beams

3) To hide beams, enter the notes as tuplet quarters, e. g. "4 Quarters in the space of 4 Sixteenths". Set the tuplet to display "Nothing". To hide beams, simply un-beam these notes, and than hide stems . You don't need tuplets actually, correct? it will not accept the final quarter note. Am I miss...

Re: Finale 2012: How to add shortcut

TGTools: program F-keys instead for that purpose. They are powerful since you need to press only one key at the time. Everything else is less shortcut. Not to talk about the default 'shortcuts' that can be used only by an octopus. If you want to use K to get to KEY-tool, don't do it. Every time if y...

Re: MM Feature requests

I have just come over from MakeMusic's forum and discovered this discussion. I could not agree more with Spence's remarks. Finale is flawed, but it does what it does better than any other product. It is too bad that those who try to defend Finale get slammed mercilessly because of their "overzealou...

Re: MM Feature requests

Dear friends, I really do agree with all of you. I just want to share my opinion, well forum is done for that purpose, and want to hear if that is ONLY me that has this opinion about further development of Finale. What my initial 'question' is that I feel a large distance between MM's leadership and...

Re: MM Feature requests

A wishlist doesn't need ultimately to include only the bug fixes, and only about the bugs. I speak here about the wishes people list on their site, and they get numbers. Well, I don't see any follow up how that numbers transforms into some discussion from MM side about eventual implementation. Just ...

Re: MM Feature requests

Are you using Finale 25 now? As Mike says, it's stable, fast, and does have a number of notation bug fixes. For me, Finale is a familiar tool, and I know how to get the best out of it, to do what I need to do. I dare say I could use another app, but I would probably be learning not only new methods...

Re: MM Feature requests

I have been using Finale for far too many years to start learning a new program. Yes, me too. I am highly dependent of any kind of very well functioning notation software. I am a freelance composer and publisher. My last use of Finale had really impacted my schedule. About +30% of time was ...

MM Feature requests

Dear friends, I visited several times last months the new MM Zendesk, and particularly the Feature Requests. A question to some of you who are the beta testers: have any of these requests been implemented? MM makes it actually worse. The old forum was perhaps a place for feature requests, now they h...

Agree as above. Contact MM's support, they SHOULD give you help even if it is an older version. I remember F2007, and it was "not great". Not quite. It was a great step forward actually: New for 2007: Linked Parts - intelligently link your score and parts to save time New for 2007: Mac/Intel Support...

Re: OT - Generating "Font Maps"

Can't you just install FontForge and print from there? Apple's Baskerville has 1777 characters. Adobe's Garamond Premier Pro has 2372. November2 has 1790. Multiply that by all the different styles and weights of all your fonts, and you're going to need a lot of paper! :D You can use a PDF printer. ...

Re: Slur in vocal music

Hi all, I have a choir score and at a certain bar, sopranos divide into layer 1 & 2 (on one staff). Both layers are a melisma, so should I slur BOTH layers (one slur over and one slur under)? Or just the upper layer? Slurring both layers makes sense musically, but I wonder if notationally it is ove...

I'm not sure what you mean by "uncheck spacing" for Speedy entry. Where do I find that option? Go to layer 3, invoke the Speedy Entry tool, click outside the staff, then Command -click in the measure in question to bring up the edit frame. Click Next Entry to select the note with a duration of 4096...

Nick, it appears you are using Dorico and seem to be enthusiastic about its present output and its potential to become a top music engraving application. Do you know whether Steinberg offers samples of Dorico's output as regards "real world" music engraving? I'd like to see, let's say, several scor...

Re: Totally useless time consumption

I have submitted the parts. It was really a nightmare. After 30 years of development, Finale should act differently - to say, more intelligent. The automation requirement of applications has been in focus a lot last years. Finale is far behind, perhaps still in 90's. Why my articulations remove agai...
