Re: Selection Tool option?

As long as you don't actually start the drag on the shape itself, you should be fine. Start the drag from the top, or outside the shapes.

Re: Selection Tool option?

I'd like to see cases where this provides some utility not already available. As said, JW Change will usually only act on the items specified, regardless of what else is selected. The same for most other functions. If we had "Selection Filter" and Edit Filter, then the possibility for confusion over...

Re: Selection Tool option?

Surely, the shapes will only be selected when using the Shape Tool? In the Selection Tool, the measure regions will be selected. In any case, assuming that the shapes are selected along with the regions, what happens to them when JW Change alters artics? You can filter the focus of JW Change actions...

Re: Advice about layout/reducing pages

Nothing wrong with 3 systems on page 2 of Number 2 - infinitely preferable to a third page with just one system. I'd say you could reduce the staff size even more. You'd need to increase the lyric size so that it's still legible, so swings and roundabouts. You're using a spacing table, rather than a...

Re: George and Gracie

Same shortcut in Mac: Opt-G. The only issue is just like triplets on the last beat, where the measure can get overloaded before you change them into grace notes. That's why you use Command G to load the grace note tool before you add the note. Then toggle it off for the final real note of the measu...

Simple Entry uses the Alt-G shortcut** to turn the currently selected note into a grace note, and Command G ** to toggle the Grace note tool.

** On Mac. Windows shortcut may/may not be different.

Re: OS 10.12.6

Usually these updates work OK, but I remember a dreadful Finale boorach for some of us a few years ago when updating from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8 (we got persistent messages saying our Finale [2007, I think] was not authorized and that there were ‘0 days’ left to authorize). Many people like to harken bac...

Re: how do I do ellisions in text?

I've long campaigned that Finale should have an "Insert Elision" menu item. Obviously, you would need a place in Doc Opts to set the font and char used. If you think it's a good idea, let MM know. It's also worth mentioning that Finale's Text Search & Replace has some pretty nifty options, which I h...

Re: Serious bug in Finale 25.4

Someone on the Facebook Powergroup page also pointed out that it's best to never incorporate any update right off the bat until it's been out for a while and such issues have been recognized. Which I typically never do, I'm not sure why I did this time. Won't make that mistake again. Unless everyon...

I'd try trashing the pref file first. That's where the palette position etc is stored. Worth a pop before doing a whole reinstall.

Re: Changing note to rest does not remove staccato v25.4 Mac

If you have the JW Change plug-in, then you can delete all articulations from rests. Screen Shot 6.png I've included "Not Fermata" to the settings, as that's one kind of articulation you would want on a rest. Finale is dumb to each kind of articulation -- they are all just symbols with no meaning. J...

Re: What computer specs would be perfect for Finale?

If you're not experiencing similar slow-downs in other applications, then I would suggest the hardware is not at fault. Finale on the Mac does have a few problems, though these are high priorities for MM. Some slowdowns seem to be document-specific: you might want to submit your documents to MM and ...

Re: Serious bug in Finale 25.4

Yes, it does require a particular set of circumstances, but if you have them, it's very serious. I'd rather exaggerate it's significance to bring it to people's attention than downplay it. It's all very well saying "don't use those chars", but if you already have files with them, then that's not easy.

Serious bug in Finale 25.4

If anyone hasn't seen it, there is a fatal bug in 25.4 -- though only within very specific criteria.

don't think I have a backup on this: I went in to the backup folder for Finale in my C drive, but I also can't open the document from there. And I'm worn out by the issue. 25 and any future updates are a done issue for me. Whatever it's shortcomings, 2014.5 didn't corrupt my documents. Admittedly, ...

Finale's abilities for colouring are limited to specific uses. For anything else, you will have to go to another app. There are plenty of other vector artwork drawing packages, ranging from free to inexpensive. If you think you might ever use one again, then I would recommend Affinity Designer, whic...

That is very wierd. Does it happen in other documents? It may just be a one-off, but it's certainly worth filing with MM.
