Re: Finale 2008: laptop won't read third install CD

What was on disk 3—training videos? I recycled most of my old installer sets so can’t go back and refresh my memory. Here’s an old post saying that disks 2 & 3 could take forever. https://forum.makemusic.com/default.aspx?f=5&m=201038 There are many reasons a 13 year old CD cannot be read. I used to ...

Re: Settings to export PDF scores, monochrome or not

… I was wondering if, when you export scores, you set the pdf printer on monochrome or not … If I understand you correctly, you need a PDF file in true Black-&-White - right? To get true Black-&-White, do not “print” to a PDF file. Instead, use the Graphics Tool to export as PDF. Thank you :) The q...

Re: Trying to install BBCSO VST but Finale 2014 does not read it.

Just a guess but…

If it’s a 64 bit only VST, then Finale 2014 and earlier will not be able to read it.

JBridge may be able to help.

Re: Finale v.25 and Mac OS Catalina

I was at the Macworld conference in Boston where Finale debuted (1988?) and I remember chatting with the developer there. Windows at that time was version 1.0 or 2.0 and was very crude compared to the Mac. PCs also had 16-bit processors, which had limited memory, compared to the Mac's 32-bit proces...

Re: Saving an .musx FINALE file to an MP3 file

I'm trying to save a standard FINALE .musx notation file to an MP3 file. I go to FILE/EXPORT/AUDIO and then I am presented with only one option... a .WAV file. Where is the MP3 file option? I'm running a WINDOWS 10 operating system on a 5 year old LENOVO laptop. Thank you as always. Kimball Save as...

Re: Nectar Elements

Never heard of it. Glad I’m not the only one! Frankly, I was surprised to see a question about it on a notation app board. IZotope plugins are very popular for DAWs but I would never think of using any of them in Finale — unless one is generating backing tracks and recording a vocal into Finale, th...

Dorico imports XML very well, but exports it poorly. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I agree only with the exports…poorly part. Dorico 3.1, which just came out, greatly improves XML import. I’d call it quite functional now, though of course there’s always room for improvement. Dan is righ...

Re: Nectar Elements

Nectar Elements recently flagged me that it was in demo mode and that I needed to authorize it. I've been using it for years, so this was a surprise. Meanwhile, any file in which it is activated inserts silences at periodic intervals, making playback virtually useless. I was wondering if others hav...

Re: JW Plugins disabled by OS10.15.4?

I found this on a Facebook Finale power users page : from Greg Angel : There is a way around this....... for now. Apple will be closing this loophole/grace period sometime, so avoid OS updates if you need JW or other unsigned PIs. 1. launch Finale 2. when you get the warning, open System Preference...

Re: JW Plugins disabled by OS10.15.4?

If the problem appeared with the 10.5.4 update, you could try to revert to MacOs 10.5.3, still available on the Apple website : https://support.apple.com/en_US/downloads Get the combo update, it seems to be recommended to do a complete install. That won't work to install an earlier OS. The options ...

You should only have to go through this once per app after an OS update.

Re: Finale 25.4.1.152 loads VERY slowly

One more symptom I forgot to mention -- after I use Finale and close it, the next opening tends to be very fast, even like 3 seconds. It seems that the longer the interval that I use the computer for other stuff, then the longer the next Finale load will take. Yes, that's normal. That's what a memo...

Clare Fisher, among others, favours tho + and - instead of # and b in Chord Symbols. I personally like the Berklee thing of Triangle for Major Seventh, and the Circle with Slash for Half Diminished. ... You left out ° for diminished 7th (Shift Option 8 on a Mac). Re: Minimal laptop requirements to avoid total frustration

If one, that’s not a bug. Each instance of a VI uses one core. Multiple instances let the OS balance the load among the cores. Finale pegs 100% of a single core on ANY CPU during playback, regardless of the number of VST/AU units being used. (Even if you're not using any, but playing to Smart Soft ...

Re: Minimal laptop requirements to avoid total frustration

On My Mac, Finale uses under 500 Mb of RAM, while playing back 16 tracks using Garritan. It does, however, use one entire core of the CPU while doing so (a known bug). So you definitely want to get a 4-core CPU, so that the whole computer doesn't grind to a halt when Finale monopolises the CPU. ......

No, I have not but if it is an XML why would it not work? Agreed. Don't know Symphony Pro, however. Notion for iOS from PreSonus, on the other hand, works quite well as does its MusicXML export. The $9.99 includes a few instruments, too. Although there are in-app purchases ($26.99 for all the instr...

mbfind will locate files in places that most users don't know exist such as APFS back up volumes (there are 24 such volumes, one per hour on most Macs since High Sierra if Time Machine is enabled), Time Machine etc. That's why it must be filtered. I'm not sure why you find that funny. "find" has been part of UNIX forever. From the mdfind "man" page (note the last line).

Surely the ability to find all files matching some sort of wildcard string is built into the Mac? If not, you should be able to do it from the UNIX shell: find / -name \*.musx something like that. You had to go there... I laughed hard — that made my morning. That particular command doesn't work on ...
