Re: Lyrics problem
Polly, When you launch the template, a setup box appears asking for Title, etc. Don't fill that in. Just tap Cancel. This will take you right to the template, and you will be ready to go. You can add your title and other info directly onto the document, with the text tool. The instructions are not c...

Re: How to create a round
Larry,
SW can't do it. (In fact, I'm not even sure how I would do it in Finale.) You will have to use the standard SW workaround: one version for print, and one version, written out completely on 3 staves, for playback.

You can set it up that way in your default documents, and then, if you set up from the Wizard, it should stick.

The / key also beams or unbeams notes in Simple. Just remember to select the SECOND note of the pair that you want to beam, and then tap the / key.

Re: having a limited amount of bars for one staff
Set up your score with all of the instruments. When you are finished with the note entry, and ready to work on page layout, go to http://www.specialmillwork.com/finaletips.htm and look at the article Hiding Staves in Print Music. The instructions also apply to SW2010.

Re: having a limited amount of bars for one staff
You can't, in 2012. That functionality was removed in the 2011 "upgrade" of PrintMusic, and carried into the 2012 versions.
Sorry.
Your best option would be to look for a 2010 version of SW or PM.

Re: Numpad 0 doesn't input rests
Not quite. 0 should input a rest of the duration selected. It won't change an existing note to a rest. For that, use the R key. You might want to go one step further. Use the computer keyboard to enter your notes. In simple, A-G enters the notes of that pitch. It works with the CLOSEST note, so, if ...

Re: How to create independent sections in same song
Larry,
Again, I apologize. I thought SW had the ability to export graphics. I just checked, and I was wrong.
Do you need to do this often enough to warrant an upgrade to PrintMusic? Or, if this is the only time you think you will want this feature, download the PM demo. You can use it for 30 days.

Re: How to create independent sections in same song
You can't do it in 2012. In 2010, you could remove individual staves, but that was removed in 2011 in PrintMusic, and now in the newest SW. Unless you can get an older version, you're stuck. Your only choice is to export the pieces as graphics, and paste them back onto one page. No playback, of cour...

Re: Specify volume in mixer
Peter, SongWriter doesn't have the volume or pan options in the Instrument list. To the original poster, No, there doesn't seem to be anyplace in SW (Windows) to numerically make that change. In the Mac version, when you move the sliders in the Mixer, there is a window that shows the number as you s...

As Peter said, YOU MUST COMPRESS THE .MUS FILE TO UPLOAD IT.
A PDF won't help. We need the .mus to look under the hood.

Re: Play second time only for repeats
Those options are found on the Create Expressions dialogue box. At the bottom of the Dialogue box, there is a button Create Expression. In the next screen, you will see the tab for Playback.
Note: This is in the full Finale only. PrintMusic and the others won't give you this choice.

That the way Finale works. You add all the staves, and then, delete the empty ones. How (and if) this can be done varies with the product. What are you using?

Re: authorisation code
No offense meant, but did you enter the authorization code into the program? Many people overlook this step, thinking that if they got the code via email, that it's all done.
You might also enter the code via Copy/Paste, to reduce the chance of a typo.

Send that one in to tech support. It's almost certainly something on your system, and they would have the widest range of info if there have been others with the same problem.

Do your composition in scroll view. Many people prefer that. When you switch back to page view for layout, the smart shapes should be correct.

A red note means it's in layer two. Delete it, and re-enter it in layer one.
