Re: Still having problems with default file

when I open a new file, my staff height has been reduced from .25", as I set it, to .11", and there is only one system per page. How are you opening a new file? There are many ways. I made a new folder called Custom in the Document Styles folder and saved your Engraved Style there as a .ftmx templa...

Re: Still having problems with default file

When you do a Save As, save as type "Finale Template File." (In reality, .ftmx and .musx files are the same, just with a different extension, so I suppose you could rename them with the OS, too). The default file is just a quick way to create something to play around with. I use it all the time to ...

Re: Still having problems with default file

I solved most of the problems I was having earlier with my default file. But this is still plaguing me: I have been carefully editing my default file, that is, Maestro Font Default.musx, and carefully "save as" in order to overwrite what was already there. But now when I open a new file using Setup...

Can you upload your Engraved Style, which is what the setup wizard uses?
Hmmm I thought that's what I did yesterday, but maybe I am not understanding. I thought that the Engraved Style used the Maestro Font Default. Let me know what I should do differently.

Thanks,

Mark

Re: Manually spaced multi-measure rests won't stay put

FWIW, one of Jari Williamson's plug-ins is designed for this specific task ie: respacing all MM rests so that their width is proportional to the number of bars rest. I use it all the time, with no problems. But, as Motet points out, the first thing the plug-in does is to turn off automatic update o...

I read the reviews here with every new version to see what the, um, "new features" are. I usually wait until the "new features" have been fixed to upgrade.
Good idea!

Re: "Finale cannot find the file Basic"

If you have changed Engraved Style and can put the one that comes with Finale back and see if the phenomenon persists, that would be interesting. If you can upload your version here, I can try it on Windows--it should work. I haven't changed the Engraved Style, though. What should I upload? In case...

Re: "Finale cannot find the file Basic"

Here you go: the setup wizard uses Music Files/Document Styles/Engraved Style (or handwritten). I suspect this is the one that is the goofy one. That's definitely what I am using. As mentioned in my last two posts, it all works fine now except when I have three or four voice and piano. Very weird.

Re: "Finale cannot find the file Basic"

The mystery deepens: Now that I have located the proper default file, the Setup Wizard works fine EXCEPT when I am trying to set up a combination of voices and piano, and then I get the tiny staff height and huge system margins. Any solo voice and piano works fine, two voices and piano works fine, t...

Re: "Finale cannot find the file Basic"

Preferences/Folders/Default Files shows the folder where the default document should be. For the Maestro font, it should be called Maestro Font Default. In Preferences/New, Default Document should also say Maestro Font Default. Perhaps someone with a Mac could upload that file here and you could st...

Re: "Finale cannot find the file Basic"

Did you add the "Welcome Winter" just now? If not, looks like the wrong file. May be the wrong file anyway. Temporarily rename it and see what happens. Are you creating with New document from template or New default document? Different things. If you look at Document/Page Format/Score, you'll see t...

Re: "Finale cannot find the file Basic"

Does anyone have a clue as to why opening up my default file results in this? It looks nothing like my actual default file: not only are the page and system margins WAY off, but, as you can see, the staff height is quite amazingly tiny. I'm attaching it again so no one has to hunt for it, and I am a...

Re: "Finale cannot find the file Basic"

Marc, F26 is basically the same as 2014, but some of the folder paths may have changed. Go to the program preferences, and click the Folders tab. That will show you the default directory paths, unless you changed something. Remember that on a Mac, there are two Finale paths; one for the computer, a...

Re: "Finale cannot find the file Basic"

Reading in the manual, I get this information for where the default file should be: Library/Application Support/MakeMusic/Finale 2014 (or Finale 2014.5) I assume that the same applies to Finale 26. But the directions stop there. Within that folder are a whole bunch of things, several of which sound ...

Re: "Finale cannot find the file Basic"

Look at your Preferences, especially New and Folders, and make sure you didn't accidentally add something called Basic. Attached is what I find when I open Preferences-->New. In fact, it did say "Basic", so I changed it to the name of my default file, "Finale Default File". But now, when I try to o...

Re: Time to upgrade to 27?

If you don't need something that Version 27 has to offer (the main thing being SMuFL fonts, which seem half-baked at this point), upgrading seems like buying trouble, but some people like to have the latest and greatest--nothing wrong with that, I guess. They have promised a 27.1, which they say wi...

"Finale cannot find the file Basic"

For the past couple of years, whenever I open a new file, I get the attached message. I know that I am foolish for having put up with it for so long, but I now would really like to solve this issue. I *do* have a default file, which I thought was supposed to open automatically when I open a new file...

Re: Time to upgrade to 27?

Mark, there have been instances (acknowledged by Finale) where certain articulations, etc., don't render properly in 27. https://makemusic.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/4403373845655-Certain-Expressions-and-Articulations-Not-Playing-Back-in-Finale-v27-0 Some plugins may not work as they did before,...

Time to upgrade to 27?

Is it safe to upgrade to Finale 27? One friend of mine told me absolutely not to do it with pieces that are already in process, but I always have 3-5 different projects going at the same time and can't picture a time when I will have finished up everything and only have a new project to begin. My fr...

Manually spaced multi-measure rests won't stay put

In this piece, for solo viola, 2 vns, cello, and piano, one movement is solo viola with the other instruments tacet. For the tacet instrument parts, I have the movement divided into two multi-measure rests--which I am happy enough with, because I don't want to deal with renumbering all the measures,...

I seem to have some mysterious issue with my responses not getting posted, so I'll try again. My response to miker was from last night before your various other responses came along, but I guess I forgot to press "submit" so only posted it this morning. And I just wrote a general response and to say...

Re: How to get rid of a split measure

Change the time signature in the first 1/2 measure to 4/4. All of the notes will go into the first measure. Select and delete the empty second measure stack. Change the barline to normal. Thanks, miker! The bad news is that your instructions didn't work for me: I changed the time signature to 4/4, ...
