Just to answer this question. Individual notes and rests can be moved in speedy entry by grabbing them with the mouse and dragging them where you want.

Re: Change default from Garritan to SmartMusic

Finale used to allow you to select the instrument set in the setup wizard. I see that in 25.5 you can still select instrument sets but the labeling gives no indication as to whether you're choosing Garritan sounds or soft synth sounds.

Re: Garritan JBB2 and FinaleV25

The only part I can answer is KS stands for key switch. Those sounds have key switches configured for changing the sound... say from non-muted trumpet to muted trumpet.

Key switches are notes outside the instrument's range that are used to send a MIDI message to the sample player.

Re: VST to 22 instruments

You'd be better off setting up individual staves for each wind player. The easiest way to do that is to just use the setup wizard. Finale will assign instruments to banks and channels as needed.

Re: Changing playback sounds

I can't get your file to change sounds either. In fact I couldn't get it to play any sounds at first. I had to close the file, open a default document and input some notes on the staff to get sound happening again.

My only guess is that somehow your file has become corrupted.

Re: Constant beat 4/4 to 6/8

6/8 is equivalent to triplets in 2/4. Can this be notated in 2/4?

If you're keeping the quarter note pulse constant, I would think that would be a better way to do it.

Re: Title page etc. before the score

You can certainly create a template with those pages ready to go, but as far as I know when you open a template with the setup wizard, you only get the last two pages of the wizard.... score information and score settings. You don't get any way to select the instrumentation. Somebody else may come a...

Re: Looking for an authoritative resource to settle a disput

I agree, courtesy accidentals after a barline are not the focus of the topic: It is meant to be a clear exception to the original premise. Logically, if the original premise were correct, an A-flat in the time signature with a flat before a particular A would mean that the pitch to sound is an a-do...

Audacity is probably your solution for transcribing the audio. It will do what you need. I use it myself for this very function.

Can you post one of those loops as well? I'm guessing they're using a trick to keep them a certain length.

Re: Finale export issue

MIDI doesn't deal with silence. It only deals with note on and note off data or event data over time. That rest on the end doesn't exist as far as a MIDI file is concerned. The last information required was the final eighth note before the quarter rest. If you put a note in the next measure, then th...

Re: Looking for an authoritative resource to settle a disput

The problem here is akin to proving a negative. There are many examples of cautionary accidentals without brackets that simply indicate the shown pitch, but I don't think any authority has gone to the trouble of explicitly stating that a cautionary accidental without brackets does not double the sha...

Re: how to set up Finale to open MIDI files on websites...

Finale would be a poor choice for streaming MIDI. The program is just not designed for that sort of thing.

Can you not set VLC to play MIDI files? Windows Media Player? Quicktime?

Re: Looking for an authoritative resource to settle a disput

The real question is what this person will accept as authoritative. A quick google search provided this site: http://dictionary.onmusic.org/terms/964-courtesy_accidental First paragraph: The accidental sign is often placed in parentheses to designate that this is a courtesy accidental and is the ori...

If this were true you'd be constantly having to second guess the meaning of a sharp sign on that note... wait, is that canceling out an F natural or an F double sharp?... oops missed my cue.

If you display those tools on the tool pallet, the corresponding menus will open by clicking the tool.

You can also program your f keys to open the various tools. That's what I do.

My questions are as follows (I am currently running Finale v 2014): 1) Can any midi keyboard be used for entry into/manipulation in Finale? Re: Any playback of legato?

There's nothing for them to make work. In order to get legato sounds, you have to have samples that include legato playing. You simply can't expect a notation program to come with that level of samples. The price would be quite a bit higher than it already is. Have you considered buying more advance...

Re: Can we apply legato to Guitar Bends?

Guitar playback is woefully inadequate in Finale. You have to remember that Finale is a notation program with basic playback ability not a MIDI sequencer.

You could do what you want with MIDI pitch bend data, but do you really need this to play back perfectly?

Re: Playback on P I M A symbols

There's no separate sample for slurred notes in any of the stock sounds you get with Finale that I'm aware of. Finale handles slurs by playing the notes slightly longer so they bleed together, but you won't really get a true slur sound. For that you'd have to use a sample set that includes slurred n...

A word of caution- According to some sources (Google search), Tin Whistles are not transposing instruments, diatonic not chromatic. The identifier "in D" indicates the lowest pitch of the instrument and plays a D major scale. Tin Whistle in C plays a C major scale. I'd suggest you telephone the pla...
