Re: Last Counterpoint Question
No worries, motet. Yeah, there's nothing wrong with parallel thirds at all. However, it's best to not have as many. 6 parallel thirds in about 8 bars is a bit much. When writing in 5th species counterpoint (which this is), you have to look at the voice leading right before the barline, from measure ...

Re: Last Counterpoint Question
The voices aren't crossing at all in the file you attached. However, for much of the counterpoint, the voices are very far apart. Typically, unless one line is the bassline, you want the parts to be within an octave of each other. An octave and a 3rd is pushing it. And an octave and a half is about ...

Re: Jetstream Finale Controller
Those two questions deal with part of the JetStream architecture I'm not familiar with. I'll ask others on the team who know more about this and get back to you with an answer.
Most of my work has been with JW Lua and the logistical work with releasing the JetStream.

Re: Jetstream Finale Controller
- I would say having quarter tone flats & sharps with the accidentals would be a big time saver for me, especially if they changed the frequency playback as well (but I suspect that's not possible on the controller end). The quarter tone accidentals are included w/ regular accidentals in Sibelius, ...

Re: Jetstream Finale Controller
Unfortunately, I'm likely out w/ a subscription cost. Does this include quarter tone accidentals? That's entirely up to you if you decide not to use the JetStream. No hard feelings. The subscription is not up to us; it's from the Stream Deck that we've built the JetStream on top of. With that said,...

Re: Layers
Sorry about the incomplete post. When you define a staff style, you should get this window.
There is an option for "Alternate Notation". Select that and you should see the window I screenshotted earlier.

In the staff style definition, you can change which layers are affected.
This only works for these alternative notations, though.

Re: Metric modulations
I've never personally liked the notation q = h for that very same reason. To me, an equals sign means equality. But a modulation is a transformation. Personally, I use an arrow h → q for "the half becomes the quarter", though this is non-standard notation. With that said, it has never confused any m...

There's also a staff style called "Force Hide Staff (Collapse)" that you could try on the organ staff.

Re: Hold off on Catalina?
I've asked Makemusic if they know if Finale is compatible with macOS Catalina.
I'm expecting a generic "we can't guarantee it will work completely" sort of answer, but worth a shot. Curious how side car is going to work with Finale.

Re: Rebaring backwards
I'm not sure what Peter is saying either, but here's how I'd do it.
1) Change the 4/4 to 2/4
2) Copy the first 2/4 into the last two beats of the 6/4
3) Delete that first 2/4 measure
4) Change the 2/4 to 4/4
If you have any slurs, you'll have to redo them using this method.

Following up on what Motet said, legally you don't need a copyright message and your work is protected. However, if you wanted to include the copyright, here's how you do it according to the US Copyright Office: ©Year Owner. or Copyright Year Owner. For instance: "©2019 Nick Mazuk" or "Copyright 201...

Not sure how much you know JW Lua, but this is possible with it. I've never personally written a script that will add/change text boxes on every open file, but it might be worth looking into.

Sometimes the document style locations is different. So perhaps the version that Finale is using for you is in a different folder? To check on a mac, go to Finale > Preferences > Folders, and look for "Document Styles". Edit the document styles in the folder listed there. Don't think I mentioned tha...

Re: Key Commands and Default Docs
You should look into creating a document style or a template file.
I created a video a while back all about setting up and using document styles: https://youtu.be/h2Km6BspqEc
Any keyboard shortcut you create with a document style will be saved for the next new document with the setup wizard.

Another option is to use a JW Lua Script on Elbsound.studio:
https://elbsound.studio/jw-lua-scripts.php (script #11)
For the notes you want around a box, put them in their own measure with invisible barlines, select the measure, and run the script.

Re: elbsound.studio Perfect Layout
As a trombonist, a high D alone isn't too worrisome. Yes, I'd still worry about it, but it wouldn't stop me from playing the Meditation from Thais. With that said, this high D is a really hard high D. Not only is it the climax of the phrase and the loudest part (which kills chops), but the piece slo...
