Re: pdf's
1. Which version of PrintMusic are you using? 2. Windows or Mac? 3. What are you doing, that isn't working? With Mac, you can do it from the Print dialogue. With Windows, use one of the free programs, like PDF Creator, or CutePDF. Please add the program and version you are using to your signature, i...

Re: drum set part
Percussion underwent a MAJOR change, a couple of versions ago, and the people who used it for years have had the hardest time adjusting. Please look over the new help files for percussion. Short answer: it's probably easiest to go into the percussion map designer, make a copy of the drum set layout,...

Re: Mandolin TAB
George,
I'm afraid it's another limitation of SW. You need the full Finale to make those mods. If you have a friend with Finale, they could provide you with a document that was set up for mandolin TAB, and you should be able to use that as a template in SW.

I don't know, but I think that a couple of users on the other Finale forum http://forum.makemusic.com/default.aspx have used it. You might want to post the question, there.

Re: No Stop or Pause with Playback + midi instr. ?
For the pitched percussion (marimba, etc.) set up your staff for piano, and then change the patch in the instrument list.
I'm not sure why you're having the problem with playback. Clicking the STOP button works for me. Is this in all documents, or just one particular file?

Re: enter chords as notes?
It sounds like you are entering the notes by clicking them in with the mouse. That really is the hard way. In simple entry, you can use the A-G keys on the computer keyboard, while you use the number pad to select the durations. Yes, if you are used to doing it your way, this will be awkward at firs...

Yes, you still have to zip it. The suffix should be .zip

You have to compress ("zip") a file to upload it. It must be less than 100KB.

Re: First Timer Here: Having Several Issues
No difference between features in the student version and regular version. The price is the only variable. 1. You've probably gotten into a different layer. 2. How have you assigned tempo changes? How are you initiating playback? 3. Layers. Watch the video on Multiple Voices. 4. You may not be click...

Re: Trouble sharing Fin2012 files between two computers
What versions are you running? Your signature shows 2010. If that's the case, you would not be able to open 2011 or 2012 files, unless they are in XML format.

Not sure. Have you restarted the computer? Are they both running registered copies?
You might have to contact tech support on this one.

Re: How to copy expression markings?
Larry,
I think so. There are a bunch of filters that let you select what you want to copy and paste.
What are you going to put in the new measures? New notes with the same rhythm, or something completely different?

Re: How to copy expression markings?
Larry,
You can't copy ONLY the expressions with SW. Can you copy everything, and then, delete the notes and renter them? Does deleting the notes also delete the expressions? If it does, could you use the repitch tool, instead?
(I'm out of town, so I can't check it, myself.)

Re: How to edit layers after auto-harmonizing
I don't think you can. In Finale, there are plug-ins, one of which allows "exploding" chords, but they aren't available in SongWriter. Sorry. The only suggestion I can offer would be to copy the combined staff to another one, and then step through the two staves, deleting the notes you don't want. T...

There are any number of ways to do this. Take a look at the article, Tuplets with Simple Entry, at www.specialmillwork.com/finaletips.htm, for one way. Mixed Tuplets are covered in the later part of the article.

Re: Instrumentation - ensembles
Larry,
I don't think so. How would the program know which instruments to apply to which lines?
Your other option would be to set up a blank document with the ensemble you wanted, and drag the staves over.

It shouldn't make a difference. Does it work correctly on the upper staff? Can you post the file?
You will have to compress the file to upload it, and it must be less than 100KB.

MakeMusic divides their forms differently. Feel free to post questions about any product on either the Mac or Windows forum, whichever is appropriate. Make sure you list your program and version in your signature, so that you don't get irrelevant answers.

Re: SW 2012 Editing stacked notes
In Windows, it is the CTRL key. I just tried it in SW2012, and it works as it should. Select the chord, and hold the CTRL key down, while you tap the up or down arrows.
