Re: Messiaen beats in Finale

Thank you. A part of the question remains: what is the best way to enter them into the score, in order to be visible in all parts with the exact same placement in measure, and also to be visible only in the middle of the score?
As Expressions, with staff set?

BugleMe wrote:When you think about it they are both the same (marks that affect tempo)
The alteration is something done to the tempo, while the mark is the fixed state. Somehow they are different.

Messiaen beats in Finale

Friends,
What is the best way to enter Messiaen beats in Finale?
So that they are positioned over exact notes/rests, for all instruments, but limited in parts (perhaps as Staff Set).
What font is available on Mac/Win?

I will stick with Expressions, but is there any way to prevent music to cover the number, when re-spacing?

Single time signature

Friends,
I would like to notate in Finale single time signature numbers, such as Messiaen does. A numerator that represents number of beats in measure, without denominator.

Re: O/T: Question about posting scores / parts

Hi all, Does anyone on the forum routinely post scores and parts around the world, either for sale or hiring purposes? What's the most cost effective way of doing it? Does anyone on the forum use a warehousing giant like Amazon as a pick and pack service? Cheers, Hector. Yes. But not Amazon. Can yo...

Re: Slash quarter-gracenote

OCTO, some might consider a slashed quarter note to be an musical oxymoron, which might explain its absence from music fonts. The origin of the slash through an eighth (or sixteenth note etc.) note was as an alternate way of engraving a small sixteenth note (or 32nd note etc.) when a small sixteent...

So for the quarter note value (grace note) there is no slash at all, even automatic?

I have managed to achieve the goal actually by using fantastic JW Change. I made sequence of steps to create a trill note. Thanks Jari.

Finale script, help

I want to create a script that would make a small trill notes. I want: Layer 3, noteheads to be reduced, stem removed, noteheads only black, and than horizontally moved. It worked earlier, but now in version 25 I have trouble. Anyone understanding where I am making mistake? (Solution preferably for ...

some thoughts and q

I have been away from Finale for about 1,5 year now.
Now I use Sibelius for simpler projects.
... But I just wonder what is happening with Finale? A new version coming out? Is the most current version the same as 2 years ago?

Re: Oldest Finale on OSX 10.11

Thank you David.

It just confirms my guessing that the GPU utilisation and CPU single-core usage is the main obstacle of Finale getting off the ground.
The larger monitor and larger DPI makes Finale just slower.

Re: Oldest Finale on OSX 10.11

as the slowness you're experiencing may have some other cause. Just to clarify, it is ONLY Finale that is so slow. All my other applications, including very heavy ones, work instantly. At least, the user experience is not lagging at all, everything works amazingly fast, boot time about 7 seconds. W...

Re: Oldest Finale on OSX 10.11

If you want speed, why not use Finale 25? And why are you on El Cap? (Are you sure you're running El Cap on a 1-year-old MBP? The 2016 models came with 10.12.) Well, why should I upgrade my OS if it is still supported? Yes, I have installed v25 and it is equally terribly slow. Finale doesn't access...

Oldest Finale on OSX 10.11

What is the oldest Finale version fully functional on OS X 10.11 El Capitan?
I am tired of slow Finale. On my 1y old powerful MBP it is so slow.

Anyone uses 2012 or even 2011?

I have also to disagree that having all notes AND the pedal is the right way.
Can you post your example showing what TS and the entrance beat is?

That is correct, but your initial question was about notation not performance, as far as I understand.
