Re: Using Finale w/DAW, CineStrings or the like
I would suggest that you try NotePerformer. IMO, the playback is a step up from Garritan and it works in Finale. They have already customized Human Playback so it just works. With Cinestrings, in Finale you cannot simply switch to Cinestrings and expect playback to work, it won't. Each library uses ...

Re: Suggestions for new desktop PC setup?
Sorry for my ignorance: Please define "VI Control." Looked all over, can't get a definition. vI-control.net is a music website dealing with DAWs, sampling, etc... This thread touches a bit on your situation. https://vi-control.net/community/threads/ordered-a-16-core-mac-pro-and-im-now-seriously-que...

Re: Suggestions for new desktop PC setup?
Reading similar threads on VI- Control, which is focused primarily on DAWs, many users won't have less than 64 GB of RAM. But this depends on your usage and needs. If you're earning your living with a DAW, then you need anything that will speed up your workflow. I have 16 GB of RAM and for the most ...

Re: Can we auto space measures evenly in v26?
The measure width settings have also baffled me. There are times where I put "0" in for the minimum width. In my thinking, an empty measure with a whole rest should be the smallest width measure in a file. But Finale will make a measure with a rest in it bigger than a measure with a whole note in it...

Re: Staff Spacing Problem in 26?
It looks like systems 7 & 8 have different staff system margins. While in the page layout tool, you can click on system 6. Then from the page layout pulldown menu, choose "systems>Edit Margins". Where it says "change system 6 thru 6", change it to "system 6 thru 8". Then click apply. The last 2 syst...

Re: Finale 26 oddities
My experience is the same as Zuill's. When VST/AU samples are loaded, the first time to try to enter a note, the samples load first causing a delay in the start of the sound. After the samples are loaded into memory, then the sound is instantaneous. This is normal behavior.

Re: How to modify functional expressions that don't show how they do what they do
You also need specific tempo settings on both sides of the tempo alteration for HP to interpret tempo alterations correctly. For example, you have a piece which begins at q = 120. A few measures later you add a rallentando. But after that, you need in another measure q = 88. Now Human Playback can s...

Make sure you don't have chord symbol playback enabled, that can interfere with your notated harmony.

I don't quite understand. If this can be used to emulate keystrokes or mouse movements, this can all be done with a macro program like Keyboard Maestro very easily. So what's the advantage of using Metagrid?

However, it is common while in a slur to have a hairpin which either makes the passage louder or softer gradually.

Re: HELP! SOS! How to operate Garritan with Mod Wheel
Good to hear that. As I posted before, Finale's Human Playback converts the dynamics and hairpins in your score into modwheel data. You don't need to control the modwheel yourself. As long as you put dynamics and hairpins in your score, Finale converts that to modwheel data automatically. As far as ...

Re: HELP! SOS! How to operate Garritan with Mod Wheel
When using Finale, Human Playback takes the notation and makes it work with Garritan. (for the most part) The mod wheel is CC# 1. When you put dynamics in your score, Finale will play your dynamics by using CC#1. (modwheel) So that means that you can't put a single dynamic in a piece of music and ex...

Use Special Tools Beam Extension tool Double click on one of the beam handles. A dialog box will appear allowing you to choose what beam you do or do not want to extend. Select just the 16th beam and drag it into place.

There is a smart shape in the default file which has this articulation and the wavy line all together. When I reduce the staff it's anchored to there is no gap before the wavy line.

Re: Stable or unstable measure width.
In measure 334, the meter is 54/8 for the cadenza. Even though beats are hidden, Finale is still leaving space for them. Since linked parts aren't used here, I would just change the meter of ms. 334 to 9/8, then respace. (to match the preceding measure)

Re: creating a custom dynamic marking
I'm using Finale 26. I just opened up the default file, clicked on the expression tool, navigated to the dynamics, and in slot #19 is the "rfz" expression already made. If you still need to create one, look in the character set for the Maestro font. You'll see the keystroke which creates the "r" whe...

You said that the last staves were added later. Did you generate parts before adding the staves? You need to do regenerate parts after you've added the staves.

Re: Finale compared to DAW
FWIW, I started using a DAW 18 years ago to add more realism to my demo recordings. My normal workflow is to write in Finale, then bring the piece into Logic and fine tune a recording. I've heard tracks from DAW composers that are trite and others that are outstanding. I can say the same thing about...

Right , but that means I'd have to use Simple entry, right? One can't enter notes from the computer keyboard with Speedy unless the MIDI input is being used. No, you don't have to use Simple entry. Like I said, under the Speedy pulldown menu, uncheck "use midi device for input". Now you input pitch...
