Re: Lining up 3 with the center stem of a triplet
You can always enter using different units. If your units are set to EVPUs, you can used 0.25i for the staff height, for example (which is pretty tiny, by the way). It is tiny, but the expand everything I do for letter size paper to fit proportionately on 9x12 paper, and, what with their high-quali...

Re: Weird spacing between layers
The layer 2 notes have been manually positioned, I guess to avoid collision with the layer 2 notes. It probably looked better in the version it was created with. I don't know how to clear the manual position en masse--maybe Peter does--but you can go to the Note Position tool (NOT Note Mover), swit...

Re: Lining up 3 with the center stem of a triplet
… I've always used inches in Finale, because I never had any idea what EVPU meant, and inches has worked fine for me for these past 33 years. Can you explain why using EVPUs is more convenient? I'm happy to be an old dog learning new tricks, if in fact it will make things easier … Generally: Precis...

Weird spacing between layers
Editing this piece that someone else copied 16 years ago is going to drive me nuts with all of the things that are not working as they normally do for me. The latest bugaboo: In the attached, in mm. 26-29, the spacing between layers in the upper staff of the piano makes no sense. Chords that should ...

Re: Lining up 3 with the center stem of a triplet
… Can you remind me what "e" means in -12e? And how to convert that to inches? Thanks! 0) It sounds like you have Finale’s default {Measurement Units} set to Inches. You have not considered changing the default Measurement Units to something more convenient? Just an idea: Font sizes are always in P...

Re: Lining up 3 with the center stem of a triplet
I've got it set so that many of the 3s are where I want them to be, but it is so inconsistent, even when I am changing the settings for all of the document to be the same: some are to the left of where they should be, some to the right of where they should be, and some have the number right *on* the...

Re: Lining up 3 with the center stem of a triplet
… Thank you. What unit of measurement are you using? Mark In the bottom of the Document Options there is a pop up menu where you can change the Measurement Units. This means that you, in a screen shot of the Document Options, always can see what Measurement Units are used: Ah, right. Of course. And...

Lining up 3 with the center stem of a triplet
Is there a setting for placing the 3 of an eighth-note triplet so that it lines up with the stem of the middle note? It always seemed automatic to me, but with the current piece I am editing, I've tried ever combination of settings, and they still are always noticeably to the right of the middle ste...

Thank you so much! That did it!Bill Stevens wrote: ↑Sun Mar 05, 2023 6:29 amMark,
On "Pacific Dances" if you use Edit > Clear Selected Items > Special Alterations > Notehead … Alterations, that reduces the notehead size. See if that is what you want.

Notehead size not matching other files
I just started editing a piece, and I can't figure out why the noteheads are so large compared to other pieces I have engraved. Attached are 1. Pacific Dances p.1 (the new piece I am editing) 2. Chamber Jams p. 1 (one edited long ago, for comparison) I made sure that all of these things match: staff...

Re: Really bad problem with lyrics
Mark, Can you go to a backup and fix it from there? Lyrics messes can be a real headache. ::: Bill Alas, the backup was created after all this happened. There were other things about the file, like slurs that would be an inch above or below the notes they belonged with, that made me think it was sa...

Beaming 8ths in 3/2
I never, ever want to beam 8th notes in 3/2 by the half note. I *always* want them beamed by the quarter, instead. But even if I have gone through my 3/2 measures and divided the beams as I want them, if I make any change in the measure, it re-beams everything by the half note. A truly irritating fe...

Re: Really bad problem with lyrics
For anyone interested, I asked for help from a MakeMusic person. She advised me to delete all of the lyrics and re-enter them from scratch. And to help improve the possibility that it not happen, she advised me to export the file as a MusicXML file and then re-open that in Finale. That's what I am d...

Re: Really bad problem with lyrics
Major bummer. No, I’ve never had that happen. Are the lyrics correct in their correct places in the Lyrics window? You probably won’t have to retype everything. You can most likely salvage a lot with cut and paste, and then flow them in. Thanks. I just checked in the Lyrics Window, and no, they are...

Really bad problem with lyrics
In a piece with 275 measures, which I had just about finished, all of a sudden the lyrics have gone absolutely berserk: Among other weird things 1. the last 30 measures have had their lyrics erased 2. words that were in m. 270 are now showing up in a completely different staff in m. 11 (and this sor...

Re: Adding a new staff within existing group
In the staff tool, select the top four staves (Hester, Roger, etc.) in their entirety--to the end of the piece (Shift+End is helpful here)--then pick Group and Bracket->Remove from the Staff menu. That will finally get rid of Group 8. (I know Bruce Olstad--he's been chorus master/assistant conducto...

Re: Adding a new staff within existing group
I'm trying to insert a new staff within a group that is already there, and I don't seem to be able to do it … no matter what I try, my new staff either ends up below or above the existing group. I can't insert it where it needs to go … Your description makes me suspect that the instrument is a {sta...

Re: Adding a new staff within existing group
Here's the file, or a part of it. I had the four voices at the stop as a group and then realized I needed to add another voice. I deleted the grouping and tried to move the new staff from the bottom, where it is automatically placed, to the second staff down, but the original group of four staves is...
