Ossias: no slurs or hairpins

Finale 26. Mac, OS 10.14.3 (Mojave) I am working on the score of a quartet for flute and strings. I have created a floating ossia of the viola and 'cello parts of one measure with alternative versions of some harmonics. In this ossia the slurs and hairpins (crescendi and diminuendi) entered in the m...

Re: Secondary beams over rests, non-global.

Once again I must answer myself — to an extent. After posting the above, I tried opening a new Finale document, entering the notes in a 4/4 measure, selecting and copying them and pasting them into my 5/8 score. To my considerable amazement, it worked. But surely there is a more direct way of achiev...

Re: Secondary beams over rests, non-global.

I have a question about a much simpler — and much more common — beaming problem: how can I beam an eighth to a sixteenth with a sixteenth rest in between in a time-signature with eighths as the denominator, e.g. 5/8? The attached example demonstrates the problem. I would in any case prefer to do thi...

Re: Beam over barline — position

Thank you both for your replies. Motet, if I select Special Tools/Note Mover, the available handles are precisely the ones for the 'hidden' notes. Whether I make the greyed-out notes invisible in the View menu or not, the notes that remain visible — the black, not the greyed-out, ones — cannot be mo...

Beam over barline — position

Finale 26 on Mac with MacOS 10.1.3 (Mojave). When I use the Patterson 'Beam over barline' plug-in supplied with Finale, two notes, one black, the other grey, appear after the barline. In order to position these notes (with their possible accidentals) at the right distance from the barline, I want to...

Re: Beam over Barline Problem

I realized that there was a very simple solution to the problem shortly after posting my previous post! 1. I entered all the notes, and beamed the notes in the second measure together in the usual Finale way by selecting notes and typing /. 2. In the special tools palette, I used the custom-stem too...

Re: Beam over Barline Problem

I have Finale 26 on a Mac with MacOS 10.14.3 (Mojave). In a score I am working on I have an eighth note at the end of one measure and five eighths in the next, all of which I want to beam together. Using the Patterson Lite plug-in included with Finale, I found that if I selected all those notes and ...

Re: Can't find Plug-Ins folder

I have Finale 26 on a Mac with MacOS 10.14.3 (Mojave). The following observations about installing JW plug-ins may be of interest to others with similar computer systems and versions of Finale. 1. The path is Macintosh HD /Library/Application Support/MakeMusic, not via one's personal Library. (This ...

Re: Repeated notes with accidentals

Thank you very much, David Ward. Very curiously, after this discussion got going, I discovered the self-same procedure via the Speedy menu: Speedy/Speedy Commands. I immediately posted a detailed description here, including the observations that this applies in a given octave only, and that it can b...

Re: Repeated notes with accidentals

The old version of Finale I have is the 2004 one, I believe, but it is installed in a separate partition of my drive via Parallels Desktop, and I have not got time to investigate it just now. As for 'As far as access to Special Tools, is that different between Speedy and Simple?', my answer is 'Yes'...

Re: Repeated notes with accidentals

Thanks v. much, Peter Thomsen and mmike. I will try it. But Speedy Entry is so much more convenient, with all its tools and the Special Tools palette to hand. Can this discussion be passed on to the Finale software developers for a future update?

Repeated notes with accidentals

Computer: Mac, MacOS. 10.13.6. Finale: 25.5.0.259 I have a problem with repeated notes now that I am using the new Finale. If I write sixteen repeated G sharp sixteenth-notes in one measure (all in the same octave), I find I have to sharpen each one of them to prevent them being returned to G natura...

Re: Inserting page numbers

And now I have once again to reply to myself. I shut my computer down last night. This morning I had another go at inserting page numbers into my score according to the User Manual instructions, and it worked perfectly easily. Had there been something amiss with my computer and Finale which was cure...

Re: Inserting page numbers

Thank you, motet and Zuill. But I am obviously being really obtuse: motet, what dialog? And what is meant by 'pick pages'? I just want to insert page numbers into my score. And Zuill, what default file? Where do I find it?

Re: Cannot obtain word extension

I have found the. solution myself. I deleted the word, inserted a rest and more notes in the tenor part and then re-inserted the word under the first note without any hyphens. That did it.

Inserting page numbers

Finale 25.5.0.259 Mac, OS 10.13.6 I want to insert page numbers into a score I am working on. Cannot obtain word extension

Finale 25.5.0.259 Mac, OS 10.13.6 In the attached extract from a choral score, there is a word extension in the alto part, but nothing I have been able to do has produced a word extension in the apparently parallel tenor part. Why? And what can I do (apart from just drawing a line from the Speedy En...

Re: Disappearing note-length flag

Peter Thomsen: thank you very much; that is a brilliant solution of my problem. Why did I not think of that? But in principle I think the fact that the problem arose in the first place savours of a kind of bug in Finale, and I shall try to report it to Finale. Motet: Thank you, but that procedure fl...

Re: Disappearing note-length flag

… In the actual score, the tails are upwards because the figure is in Layer 1 and there are rests (which I have hidden) in layer 2, but I want them downwards. Re: Beaming over rests — locally

Peter Thomsen, your method works for me, too, and has the advantage over mine that secondary beams can be extended over rests as well. That is really useful. And I have the "Lite" version of the Patterson Plug-Ins, N. Grossingink, but that collection does not have the one I would need. I shall consi...

Beaming over rests — locally

Finale 25.5.0.259, MacOS 10.13.5 (High Sierra) Finale and its User Manual provide a way of beaming over rests globally, but there is an extraordinary amount of inconclusive correspondence here in this Forum and elsewhere on the Net about beaming over rests locally in a score so as to avoid doing so ...
