FYI, you misspelled anomaly.
Thanks RMK. Also "probably" and "misunderstanding". I'm in the middle of proofreading and clearly need a spellchecker. I'm missing InDesign more and more.

Re: uneven justified margins

Thanks, BuonTempi. Then I'll just continue using tracking to even out the margins.

I wish this forum could do something about the examples being reduced. There is plenty of room available, and Notat.io has no such issues with wide examples.

Re: uneven justified margins

Thanks, Peter. But what am I doing wrong that the example is so small? This has happened previously.

And why are the fully justified right margins sometimes ragged?

uneven justified margins

The full justified setting in the Text Tool doesn't always produce a smooth right margin. Is there a fix other than to adjust the tracking for that line? Example:

And why does the example show so small?

Re: SmartScore 64 Update Released

Just to complete this thread, Mike and the SmartScore tech have confirmed that this issue does not occur in the latest version of SmartScore in the file that I sent to them for testing.

Re: SmartScore 64 Update Released

No answer yet from SmartScore. SmartScore is apparently not mistaking the tie to be a slur, because it imports into Finale as a tie. This is seen in the first example in which the tie tool boxes are seen. example 1.jpeg The editing box in the second example reveals that the second tied note is still...

It's close to impossible to try to help unless we see it or at least part of it to get some idea of what you are trying to do.

Re: SmartScore 64 Update Released

Thanks, Mike and motet. I sent a problem report to SmartScore. I am finding this to be a pretty constant problem throughout a large project in which input was entirely through scanning. It's like SmartScore thinks that the tie it is a slur when two consecutive notes in the same position on the staff...

Re: SmartScore 64 Update Released

A bit OT. My version of SmartScore X Pro seems to have a problem with tied notes. If the first tied note has an accidental applied to it and the note to which it is tied is in the next measure, the accidental doesn't get applied to the second note. What makes it insidious Is that the accidental appl...

Re: Finale blog: 27.1

Strange that they limited centered beaming to certain pitches! This appears to have been a miscalculation. But it could be related to a certain "parental" attitude that bothers me. Along with empowering Dorico features that I would love to access, like greater control over slur shape and ledger lin...

A piano fingering cornucopia may be found at:

I wouldn't want to be the engraver attempting this in Dorico.

Re: Finale blog: 27.1

That example was designed to test Dorico's capabilities to the limit, since who knows when I might need to do something like that. Here is a more typical example. Both examples are quite easy to do in Finale with keyboard shortcuts: new fingering example.jpeg Hmm, why does the example show up so sma...

Re: Finale blog: 27.1

You'll forgive me if I point out the irony of Finale users considering a workaround to be an obstacle. I was responding to Michel's request for a list of things that Finale could do that Dorico couldn't. How much of an obstacle a work-around is depends on how often it is needed and varies from user...

Re: Finale blog: 27.1

I've mentioned my issues several times at the Dorico site over several years to the point where I would hesitate to do it again. Changing beam thickness, centered beaming for small intervals and multiple fingerings is hardly unusual in engraving, nor is a flexible work space uncommon in graphics pro...

Re: Finale blog: 27.1

Michel wrote: "I'd also like to hear all of those wonderful things that Finale alone can achieve." Along with what was mentioned, Dorico can't change beam thickness on a local basis. This is the biggest deal-breaker for me since there is no work-around. It doesn't do multiple fingerings for single n...

Re: Does the Ossia Tool work in v26?

I don't have v. 26, and this is not the answer your want, but I gave up on the ossia tool long ago. Adding another smaller staff and then hiding and masking what is not needed is less tedious and produces much better results.

Re: Finale AND Dorico (maybe MuseScore, Notion Sibelius, etc. also)

I think that Michel has performed a great service through these scouting reports about Dorico. In my opinion, anyone who does mainly nuts and bolts engraving and needs more automatic capabilities than Finale has would probably do well to move to Dorico. And there is a simple way to experience the pr...

Re: O/T orchestral parts question

Masking tape is more for everyday use, like putting photocopies together accordion style etc. because it holds up amazingly well and doesn't break through, even after years of use. Its reliability is why Arnstein used it for the fold-out pages in orchestral parts that were getting hard use in opera ...

Re: O/T orchestral parts question

Three or four fold out pages if necessary. I trim the margins to reduce the lateral size and tape with masking tape. That was a trick Arnstein taught me. It holds up over many years and doesn't break through. You might look at the last movement of the violin part to Ravel's violin sonata no. 2. They...

Re: O/T orchestral parts question

I just heard something. Is someone paging me? :) I think that Ian hit the nail on the head when he points out that a concerto soloist practices from the music even when they are going to perform from memory. Inferior page turns can have an adverse effect on the learning process, technique, and inter...
