Re: masking
There is a Lua script, Expression Add Opaque Background. This will "add an opaque background to a single-staff expression in the currently selected region." If this doesn't quite do it, perhaps one of the experts here (not me, by a long shot!) can make it do better. https://www.finalelua.com/scripts

Re: What am I missing about this program?
If Finale still offered the entry level NotePad, and low-cost PrintMusic, they might not have so much trouble attracting new users. I followed that route, and I'm sure many others did, as well. Make no mistake, the full version is needed to take advantage of plug-ins, which enrich the app way beyond...

Re: Slash Cords - Colliding
Thank you, sir!
Edit: the older version of RGP Lua (0.67) Is installed, and the new version of Chord Kerner 2.1 works just fine! Happy camper.

Re: Slash Cords - Colliding
Since you're on a Mac, look at the RGP Lua script, Chord Kerner. https://michaelmcclennan.com/chord-kerner-v1-0/ There are some problems. It crashes when you try to add or delete a character. I have corresponded with Mike McClennan, who is aware of it. He promises a fix, as soon as he is done with a...

Re: What is Finale's "Slash Chord" library?
Oh, it gets better. My response to that: Sorry, (name redacted). Not an acceptable answer. Could you maybe ask around, and see if anyone knows more? MM: I did ask around, and I consulted the user manual, which gives conflicting information. As best as we can tell, they provide the simple suffixes th...

Re: Frustrated with changing lyrics size, font, etc. HELP
It gives you these options for individual lyrics selected in the score, or groups of lyrics (or an entire verse) in the lyrics window.

Re: Frustrated with changing lyrics size, font, etc. HELP
I believe it says so in Document Options > Fonts > Lyrics
I make “after the fact” lyric changes this way:
Select All in the Lyrics window
Go to the Text menu (which is there, even though you're in the lyrics tool) and choose Character Settings…
Make your changes in the next window, OK

And besides that, guys only know the colors they had in their crayons as a kid. Not being from an especially rich family, I only had the Crayola 8 color box. So those are the only colors I know!

Orange chords?
A friend on mine sent me a doc. some of the chords are orange. Why?
Does it have something to do with parts (about which I know nothing?) The first three chords were in his doc. I added the fourth, just to see what happened.

DING, DING, DING! A new winner in the “Worst Customer Support Response” contest. I asked tech support, “What is the purpose of the Slash Chord Library?” The answer (I won’t say who it was) Frankly, I have no idea. Having never investigated them, I just loaded them myself and all they provide are sim...

Re: What is Finale's "Slash Chord" library?
Interesting. There are only seven suffixes (suffices?) in the Jazz Text and Times slash libraries, and 14 in the Arial set. And they all contain the delta symbol. I think this calls for a request to the mothership.
I will do so!

Re: What is Finale's "Slash Chord" library?
Very little info in the manual, and I’m away from the computer. Why not load it and find out? If you load it into a document without libraries, you’ll see exactly what it contains.

That post was from 17 years ago. That might be a necropost record!

Re: Inserting flat symbol into Score Manager/"Score Name" Insert with Raleway font
As near as I can tell, the Title frame in Score Manager won't take a symbol, even if It's in the font. I entered the title on the page, using Finale Maestro Text, which does have the flat symbol. But when I looked in Score Manager, the flat entered as the missing character box, which was also promul...

Re: Playback attempts lead to error:"Finale encountered an error and will shut down."
Since other files work correctly, try exporting your faulty file as XML, and then, import it back in. If that fails to clear the corruption, you might want to send it in to tech support, and see if they can determine the problem.
