Open a Finale 2010 file in Finale 2008a
1) To upload a .MUS document here you must .ZIP it first. 2) The Finale .MUS file format isn't downwards compatible, so you can't open a 2010 .MUS document in 2008. You should ask the 2010 owner who sent the 2010 document, to export the document as MusicXML, and send you the MusicXML file. The Music...

Slurs. Speedy?
There is a Tuplet (sub-)Tool inside the Speedy Entry Tool, but there isn't a Slur (sub-)Tool inside the Speedy Entry Tool. To enter a slur, switch to the Smart Shape Tool. I recommend that you first enter all the notes - without the slurs - and then switch to the Smart Shape Tool to enter all the sl...

Changing Above Trill Note
Are you using PrintMusic 2009?
I think that your Default Document has some ready made trill articulations in its articulation library, including a trill symbol with a natural above it.
In my own Default Document, the trill articulation with a natural above it is articulation #14.

Show Active Layer Only
Hi joe beans, I could be wrong here, but I seem to recall that the menu item "Show Active Layer Only" is available in Finale 2003. However, in Finale 2003 "Show Active Layer Only" may be in another menu. Take a look in the various menus of Finale 2003: - Edit menu - Mass Mover menu - is there perhap...

Moving Part Under Whole Note
Use layers.
Enter the whole note in Layer 1.
Switch to Layer 2, and enter the quarter notes.
The notes in Layer 2 will display in red on the computer screen, but don't worry!
They will print in black.
You can switch between layers in the lower left corner of the document window.

I could be wrong here, but I think that you are using "mirroring" rather than "linked parts". Here's the idea for linked parts: Set up the score with 4 staves: S A T B Go to Document menu > Manage Parts... and create as many parts as you wish. In each part you can use any of the 4 staves (S A T B), ...

print only active instruments on score page
Finale has an automatic function called Optimization. Read about Optimization in the manual. Finale's Optimization finds all empty staves, and removes them from Page View (they are still there in Scroll View). You can also optimize the score manually. The manual way is basically the same as the auto...

Pickup measure in parts
1) As a performer I would hate to see a part without the pickup measure. I would rather prefer to see the pickup measure displayed with the correct number of rests in it, so that I know what I'm supposed to hear from the music. However: 2) In the Oboe part you can hide the pickup measure's Default W...

...That really doesn't add stems to the TAB, it displays stems above the staff. And since it doesn't differentiate between halves and quarters, it isn't that much help. Yes, it's possible.
In Finale 2010:
Staff Tool.
Double-click the TAB staff to open the dialog box Staff Attributes.
In the pane "Items to Display", select "Stems".
You might also like to click the button "Stem Settings...", to customize the appearance of the TAB stems.

I would use linked parts, thus keeping all the parts in the same document. 1) From the original four voice parts you can create as many instrumental parts as you like - with different staff styles, since staff styles can be different between score and linked parts. An example: From the same vocal pa...

ud dude, 1) You could use Finale's Key Signature Tool to set up a quartertone key signature. See the attached files (in Finale 2010 format). The 3 key signatures are all created from the same quartertone key signature, by changing the "Amount" for the first flats from -1 (quarterstep flat) to -2 (ha...
