Most of us already have such "cloud space providers" (what a buzz phrase  ), but as has been said before, having to go outside the forum to do what you need is less than desirable. Keep everything under one roof. One stop shopping. etc. "Shopping" seems to imply that you're paying. These foru...

Re: Capo chords; no sharps

There's another way to do it. It's not easy, but it's the only option I know of. Once you have your capo chords created, right-click on the one you want to change and select "Edit chord definition..." Show advanced Change the numbers in "Numeric definition" for "Scale tone" and "alteration." For exa...

Re: Two forum suggestions

FF, thanks for the reply! I can definitely live with the current software, no prob. And having overseen a number of site upgrades myself, I understand it takes a lot of time. Just curious as to the actual annual cost of keeping the forum running. And curious to know what the ads bring in, and what t...

Posted this in the General section... ads??

This is copied from the General section... I don't know how much it costs to run the forums, or who foots the bill, but I have a feeling that enough of us might be willing to donate on an annual basis to fund the forum without advertisements. Do an annual donation fundraiser, similar to Wikipedia. I...

Sounds like the problem is with my global Finale preferences, then.

That's the way I typically do it; I agree that's simpler.

Two forum suggestions

Maybe these have already been discussed... 1. I looked at that; the box is checked already.

Strange spacing issues

Regarding my template I made... I have system locks turned off. But when I start to enter notes, I get strange spacing (as you can see in the screenshot, this is after I've deleted the notes). I always have to Select all, CTRL+M, and "remove system locks" even though the systems aren't locked! This ...

Do you have access to Lynda.com? They provide excellent tutorials, including Finale. Your educational institution may offer access.

Re: Slow screen (update layout)

What graphics card do you have, specifically? I've found that, even for new and powerful machines, the standard graphics cards can sometimes be sub-par. I think Finale is actually moderately demanding on graphics (at least compared to word processors and such). I'm running an AMD FirePro 5100. Redra...

Have you tried Studio One? It seems to integrate pretty well with Finale and RW.

Who's here?

I see several names I recognize from the old MakeMusic forum (resquiat in pacem): namely Mike Rosen, who is apparently doing yeoman's work in single-handedly answering pretty much every new post... Just curious to hear about a couple I haven't seen. Octo? Motet? Ron? N. Grossingink? Also curio...

Re: Quotation marks convert to "smart quotes"

Jari had a plugin for this prior to v25. I don't see it yet in a v25 beta form. There's a Finalescript for changing curly quotes back to straight quotes. I am not sure how to write a script to do the reverse, since there's only one straight quote character, but 2 different curly ones. I'm sure ther...

Re: Quotation marks convert to "smart quotes"

Yes, I use Brennan's Lyric Hyphenator too! Love it.

I typeset an entire hymnal with that thing. Only thing I didn't agree on was the hyphenation of "every." His hyphenator made it eve-ry, and I prefer ev-ery. I think. I went back and forth for an agonizing week on which one to use.

Quotation marks convert to "smart quotes"

This seems like a small thing, but I would LOVE it if quotation marks in lyrics automatically converted to smart quotes. Apostrophes as well.

Currently I get tick marks (" and '), and I have to manually use ALT+0147 (“), ALT+0148 (”), and ALT+0146 (’) to get smart quotes.

Here's hoping...

+1 for text "assign to measure." I've ended up preferring this for most kinds of navigational instructions.
