Re: Lyric arrow windows appears with the Expression Tool

If you want to get rid of it, go to the Expression Menu and uncheck "Adjust Above Staff Baseline" and "Adjust Below Staff Baseline".

Re: Omit unuseful instruments in some parts

All good suggestions, but the OP put that big honkin' yellow circle around the system divider. That's what clued me in to what the question might be.

Re: Omit unuseful instruments in some parts

To add the system dividers, go to Plugin Menu > Scoring and Arranging > Score System Dividers and run the plugin. I'd suggest you save this until all page layout is complete because you might end up repositioning many of them if the system margins change.

Re: removing the line from half and whole rests

Go to Document Options > Lines and Curves and set the right and left rest lines to "zero".

If you eliminate the lines, how do you tell a half rest from a whole rest? Or doesn't it matter?

Re: Grace note dynamics

I open that assignment window many times a day and never took note of all of the options, like the grace note playback. Thanks, Hector, for pointing it out.

Re: Grace note dynamics

What happens if you move the dynamic so the attachment line points to the first grace note? As I understand it, the dynamic will take effect there. You can then reposition it wherever you want, but don't lose the anchor point.

Re: Inserting and aligning a rest inside lyrics

Try using the "Maestro Times" font for the eighth rest. This font is more compatible with your text font and will display on the same baseline. You can find the special keystroke in the Help Menu > Character Sets. 18 point size seems to look OK.

Mike beat me to it!

Re: Esoteric question for powerusers only: time sig with 2 f

The custom font idea won't work - Finale won't allow a time signature of 4/0. I would set the time signature to display only the top number - set the vertical position of the bottom number so it is present, but off the page (minus 30 inches will do it). Enter the bottom number as an expression. You ...

Re: Note Position Tool: Does it not always "stick?"

As said, when Finale has rules to adjust notes from their usual position (e.g. for seconds and dots), then the adjustment that Finale makes always over-rides your manual adjustments. The problem is that notes of this kind are exactly the ones that frequently need manual adjustment. It would be good...

Re: Note Position Tool: Does it not always "stick?"

BuonTempi, your demonstration illustrates the correct behavior as described in the manual. But then, why is Piano Pete having the same unexpected result that I have experienced? I'm guessing it has something to do with context, a particular kind of adjustment in a particular place. That doesn't real...

Re: Cues in linked parts

On the subject of cues, did any of you see the video last week about how cues are going to work in Dorico? The cues are linked to the source music, and formatted automatically. It makes the Finale way of doing cues look pretty clunky, if it works as well as the video shows. I saw that demo video al...

Re: Note Position Tool: Does it not always "stick?"

If you set "Manual Positioning" to "Ignore", your repositioned notes will stick. I have found that "Incorporate" seems to clear repositioning, which doesn't seem right to me and not what it's advertised to do. Others have reported this is not so, but it's what I've experienced.

Re: Extend Stems on Beamed Notes

Special Tools > Beam Angle Tool. The left handle extends the stems; the right handle adjusts the beam angle.

I think if you beam the last 4 eighths together, that will fix the problem. It's probably more correct, as well.

Here is the Jazz accent rotated 90º - a Shape Expression arrowhead imported into the Articulation Tool. You can copy it from the attached file into one of your files if you want to play around with it.

Re: Creating a new articulation symbol

It appears that this symbol might have something to do with indicating vibrato, specifically chest vibrato. See page 22 on the PDF at the following link:

Are you making a screenshot? If so, just zero in on the character itself. I'd think that would be a small enough file.

I would move the half note rightwards and the dot a hair to the left. You can copy this to other locations (Filter: Notes and Rests & Dot Alterations) and use the Repitch Tool to change the pitches if you need to.

If you're looking for a way to split piano staves into individual voices, you can use Finale's "Explode Music" utility. See the example below.

Easy Tremolos won't do it; full TG Tools will. You can use the Beam Extension Tool to do it manually, after running Easy Tremolos.

Just a guess-

When the printer dialog appears, rather than "All" pages, choose "From 1 to X", where X is the total number of pages in that particular part.

OT-Helpful Information on Chords

While this site is aimed primarily at guitar players, others may find it useful as well. Browsing around a little, I found the very clear descriptions of various chord's construction to be very informative. Give it a look.
