Re: Quarters and rests in triplets of half-notes
Thanks, Mike. I think I figured out what's going on. If you enter the first note with QWERTY, as you did, you get this after pressing Alt+9: 0693.png But if you create the first note with the mouse, you get this: 0694.png With the "caret" between the quarter note and the rest in the first case, it w...

Re: Quarters and rests in triplets of half-notes
I did get it to work. After entering the quarter note and setting up the tuplet, it looks like this (already we're off to a bad start): 0690.png If you move the right arrow to select the first half rest and try to enter a quarter note with QWERTY, it will enter a half note instead, even though quart...

That's not it in this case. It was unchecked (QWERTY entry).

Re: Quarters and rests in triplets of half-notes
You want a triplet of three half notes in the space of two half notes. I was able to do it easily in Speedy entry by using Ctrl+1 to set up 3 halves in the space of 2, then entering the notes and rests (measure 1 below). Simple entry gave me trouble, as you can see (m. 3). Mike Rosen?

Re: Automatic beam breaking
A plug-in would be great. Meanwhile, try this: make the pattern in measure 1 below in some scratch measure--you can delete it later. Then set the copy filter as show. As you can see it will almost convert your rhythm in measure 2 to your desired result. The place is fails is where there are four 32n...

Re: Set measure width immutably
Sounds like you might have Automatic Music Spacing or Automatic Update Layout turned off. They should be on at the stage of entering music. At the very end of your process you might want to turn off Automatic Music Spacing if you're doing fine adjustment. Always leave Automatic Update Layout on.

Perhaps you could post a screen shot. But it looks like the font, GnvilFIN, is from Elbsound. I would ask Herr Angermüller himself.

Re: How do I get rid of this rectangle?
It looks like restarting Finale clears SmartFind and Paint, which you probably discovered since you haven't been back here. Restarting Finale is always the first thing you should try if there's a problem. If that doesn't work, reboot the computer.

You've accidentally invoked "SmartFind and Paint." On the Edit menu, pick SmarFind and Paint/Deselect.

Re: Part name on each page
I'm not sure which border you're referring to, but to change from the title to the part name, go to the text tool, right-click on the title, and pick Edit Text. Select all, delete it, then use the Text menu, Inserts, Score/Part name.

Re: Repeat for specific part
If some parts have repeats and others have them written out, it can be confusing in rehearsals, which I think overrides any advantages you might see having repeats in the piano part. There might even be a disadvantage to repeats if you have to turn the page back.

Re: File won't save after no activity for long time.
Do you mean you leave Finale running with the file open for a long time? If so, that's because Windows comes along and cleans out its temp directory, some of which Finale needs. The solution is to create your own Finale temp directory (in Documents, say), and point Preferences/Folders to it. You'll ...

Re: Using a grid in Finale/setting it up correctly...?
I don't think the grid does anything except let you tediously align things manually. I don't really understand the need for aligning things to a grid. Finale has other ways of aligning text expressions, fingerings, etc., even measure widths. And unless you have a system of one-measure examples, for ...

Re: eighth note triplet with quarter note as second note
I don't know what you mean by the 'cursor'. ... At this stage I have an eighth note hovering over the screen. If I change to the eraser and rub out the two rests, I'm left with the eighth note with a tiny bracket underneath (with a 3 under it). There is nowhere to enter the quarter note. By "cursor...

Re: eighth note triplet with quarter note as second note
Is this the triplet you mean? 0681.png In Simple entry, enter an eighth note and press 9. If you haven't changed the defaults you'll get a triplet of your eighth note and two eighth rests. (Otherwise, Undo, press Alt+9, and pick three eighths in the space of 2). Now move the cursor to each eighth re...

Re: How to create triplets of 4 quarter notes in 3/4 time
In Simple entry, enter the first quarter note, then press Option+9. Select four quarters in the space of 3 quarters and click OK. Finale will then create the triplet padded out with quarter rests. Replace the rests with your notes.

Re: Page format - score
That can happen if you change the page layout with the Page Format tool on your existing pages but don't reflect the changes in Document/Page Format. When new pages are created as you add music, it uses the latter settings rather than continuing the format of the existing pages. If you're starting a...
