Finale Forum

I am concerned that I can't find any attachments on my posts made before about mid-September. It might be also that everybody's attachments have been removed. What that means is that trying to get help from older topics is rendered quite useless, as the attachments are an important part of the discussion.

Question: did things change or did I run out of some kind of memory, or maybe I violated a forum rule?

There's a pinned topic "Motet's Transposition Chart" where I've added new versions over time, ande indeed it appears that all the attachments but the first one have been removed. Perhaps it's an effort to save disk space, but it seems like a terrible mistake, as Zuill points out.

Perhaps things can be restored from a backup?

I'm hoping that a moderator will chime in here. If there has been a decision made as to old attachments, then there should be an announcement made, so we're not blindsided. Maybe the website has been hacked.

If I look at Quick links/Your posts, which shows topics I've posted in in reverse chronological order, the paper clip icons indicating attachments (by anybody, not just me) disappear around the middle of September, then start to reappear again around the beginning of 2020.

I see paper clips on many in between, but in those topics, the only attachments I see are pictures. The ones that are missing are Finale files that I've attached.

So, something really fishy here.

Have you looked at the dates on the pictures? In my transpositions chart topic it's zip files that are gone.

I've lost all of my Finale file attachments From September 17, 2020 back to the date I joined the forum. Quite disconcerting.

I know the 2 moderators don't have control over the operation of the mechanics of this forum, but I'm hoping that they can at least communicate to the powers that be as to this problem. Otherwise, I am losing trust in the validity of the data here, and possibly I need to even be concerned about other aspects of my participation here. I hope this is not the end of my FinaleForum experience.

I have communicated with the administrators, and the issue has been passed on to the administrator. Hopefully our lost attachments can be restored. If not, hopefully they will not be removed haphazardly in the future. One can hope.

For the record, in recent communications with MakeMusic over my decision not to use their official forum, I documented a long list of features of this forum that I prefer over theirs. I hope that this forum will continue to meet my needs.

Many of us have tried to get MM to fix or replace the forum software.

Nothing, to date.

Do they participate?

That is one of the things I thought they touted in the beginning, but I don't think it came true. At least not in a meaningful way.

I've only looked a couple of times, and it seemed like a ghost town.

Very rarely. In the beginning, they really seemed to be making an effort. But then some people left the company, and the reps got fewer. Now, of course, they use the same excuse - Covid - as to why any tech support takes up to two weeks to respond.

But I’m afraid the forum is becoming as moribund as anything else over there...
