Why, during playback, does the volume drop during certain parts of the piece, and then rise back up again?

Is it because it's so "busy" in those sections, and the computer speaker can't handle it?

Is there a way to ensure volume consistency throughout the playback?

Just in case anyone else encounters this problem, I believe I've figured out what caused it.

The instruments were all set to "String Ensemble" in the Instrument List, which apparently put too much of a load on the sound card, causing crackling and volume inconsistencies.

I solved the problem by taking each individual staff and recording it as an individual track in Audacity, then "bouncing" all thirteen tracks down into one audio file. This removed the sound problems.
