Repeats don't work

I'm writing a piece for piano and out of nowhere the repeats sign won't work. I can't highlight, or select a measure when the repeat sign tool is in use, and thus can't add or remove or change repeat signs.

Any suggestions?

First thing to try: restart the computer.
