Hi,

I imported a MIDI file in PrintMusic that I recorded in Logic Studio. The piece is Bach's famous Prelude #1 in C major. I put the treble clef melody on MIDI channel 1, the bass note on channel 2 and the middle voice in bass clef on channel 3. So when import it, the 3 voices are on three different staves.

Now I'm trying to put the 2 lower voices on the same bass clef. Is that possible to do? Is there any Copy/Merge function?

If not, what would be the best way to approach this issue?

I don't know PrintMusic.

In the "full Finale" you could do it in (at least) two ways:

1) Use layers.
Move the bass voice to Layer 2, and keep the middle voice in Layer 1.
Enable "Show Active Layer Only", and copy the middle voice to the bass clef staff.
When you disable "Show Active Layer Only", you will see both voices in the bass clef staff.

2) Use the Finale feature "Implode Music".
"Implode Music" will combine two voices that are in the same layer, and simplify the rhythms accordingly.

Since method 2) will simplify the rhythms, I generally would try method 1) first.

But the method depends on the actual music.
I know several Bach preludes in C major, and I am not sure which prelude you are referring to as "Bach's famous Prelude #1 in C major"?
Is it from the collection "Kleine Präludien und Fughetten"?
Or perhaps from "Das wohltemperierte Klavier, Teil 1"?
Or?

Oh geesh, I see!

I was trying to copy a layer 2 line over a layer 1 line when showing all layers.
I didn't understand why a layer 2 could "replace" a Layer 1 but I guess
showing layers is really a flatten version of a song and not just a graphic display.

I don't think there's an "Implode Music" feature in PrintMusic.

I was referring to the "Das wohltemperierte Klavier, Teil 1".
The famous Prelude in C major everybody plays.
I'm in the learning process right now.

Thanks

There is no implode function in PM. Use the Show Active Layer Only function.
Although the staves you want to move are different, in general:

Staff 1, notes in layer 1.
Staff 2, notes in layer 2.
Document menu>Show Active Layer Only (select)
Switch to layer 2.
Select notes in Staff 2, drag to staff 1.
Document menu>Show Active Layer Only (deselect)
Delete staff 2.

Please add the program and version you are using to your signature, in the user control panel.
