Feeling quite stupid:

When I was trying to edit a dynamic marking and the expressions box came up with its choices under Miscellaneous, I accidentally deleted the forte symbol. It promptly erased the symbol from the rest of the score. I can't seem to "replace" the symbol in the box. Does anyone know how to get it back?

Yeah, I know.

Welcome to the forum!

I suppose that it is too late now, but Undo would probably have brought the forte symbol back.

I suppose that your document was created as an untitled copy of template or a Default Document?
This means that the forte symbol must be present in the original template/document.

What I would try:
Create a new document from the same template/document.
In the new document, enter a forte.
Select the measure with the forte, and copy the measure to the Clipboard.
Open the score document, and paste (or insert) the measure with the forte.
Now the forte should be back in the expressions box (perhaps at the bottom of the box).
You can safely delete the measure you inserted.
The forte symbol will stay put in the expressions box.

Thank you so much! That worked a treat.

Lack of sleep and coffee lead to stupid errors in this case.
