PrintMusic 2014 for Windows

I changed some slurs to ties in my Barbershop template. In Tenor-Lead the ties were properly presented but in the lower staff (bari-Bass) the ties were inverted causing them to cross each other. How do I get them to display properly?

Welcome to the forum.

Are you using layers 1 and 2 for the bass/bari line? I have seen people use layers 3 and 4, and that may cause the problem.

If that's not the case, can you post the file for us to look at?

I have always used 3 & 4 for bass bari. That way any special lyrics in the BB lines will sync with the notes. Am I missing something here?

You can use 1 and 2 in each clef. The default settings for layers seem to work better in Printmusic when it comes to ties. Maybe there is a setting to change the behavior of layers 3 and 4, but you can safely use 1 and 2.

Suppose the Bari has different note timing and different lyrics. If I use the Lyric Tool to add the lyrics, won't it automatically go to layer 1 (Tenor) where other lyrics already exist? In other words, if Layers 1 and 2 are used for Bari-Tenor and Lead-Bass, how can I make lyrics in each voice sync with their notes?

That won't matter. What counts with Lyrics is which verse you are in. As long as you are in the correct layer to which you want to apply lyrics, and are in the correct verse for the lyrics, you should be okay.

P.S.: Maybe Printmusic doesn't allow you to choose which verse you are in, so that isn't an issue, I guess.

As Zuill said, you choose the verse to line up with the part. Send me an email or private message with your email, and I will send you a link to a video tutorial I did for the Barbershop Harmony Society, detailing this.

But in a nutshell, use layers one and two for Tenor and Lead, and layers one and two for Bari and Bass, but use verses 1, 2, 3, and 4 respectively, for the lyrics.

I looked it up and "Specify Current Lyric" is where you choose the verse you are in.
