"smearing" of percussion indicators

Hello. I am using Finale PrintMusic on a Dell XPS laptop Windows 10 High res screen.
My problem is : When entering percussion, the indications (woodblock, hi-hat, ride cymbal, etc) "smear" across the top of the staff, rendering them unreadable. Gibberish. Very frustrating. The problem does not go away when I lower the resolution. Can someone help/ advise me on this? Has anyone else had this problem? I would post a screenshot, but I don't know how.
