Can PrintMusic open all (old) Finale files?

Having to upgrade obsolete Finale version. Don't need advanced MIDI features, and thinking of getting PrintMusic 2014.
Will that open old (really old) .mus files without quibbling? Can't find any answers on MakeMusic site.
Thanks for your help.

Apparently you can't even ascribe e.g. numeric key 1 plus Articulation to place a fingering 1 in the score. For a programme that claims to be a dedicated score-writing applications "without the advanced features of Finale", that's pathetic. Quickly inserting fingering is a core function of a score-writing programme. Glad I didn't waste my money.

Really? That’s your rant?

PrintMusic costs $119.95 from MakeMusic or $99 from a reseller.

Nearly any large reseller charges $119.00 upgrade from any full version of Finale, no matter how old. Here’s Sweetwater but many others charge the same.
https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail ... n-download
Pay the money; they will email you a special code. Log into your MakeMusic User Account, enter the code — this registers your upgrade and begins your download.

Pay the extra $20 or save the 95¢ — it’s a bargain.

For years, everyone (including me) had the same complaint, that the one feature that we had to have wasn't there in PrintMusic. If you added up all of those "just one feature" requests, guess what you would have: Finale!

Ha! One year at NAMM, a user was talking to Tom after one of his demos trying to figure out what to get his kid, a composition major at some college the next semester: Allegro or Finale?

My daughter being a comp. major at the time, I spoke up and said, “Don’t cheap out on Allegro. If your kid needs that one feature in Finale for a deadline and doesn’t have it, she will hate you.”

Tom laughed and said, “Marketing ought to make that a slogan.” With that, he gave me his card and told me to call next time I needed an upgrade. Which I did.

I don’t remember how long ago that was other than my daughter was at university and Allegro was still a thing. 2005, perhaps?

My "one complaint" was more staves, more staves!

I had others, but that was the one I found most frustrating. I was doing a fair bit of arranging for a local theatre company for about a five year period, and after the solo(s), the SATB chorus and piano, drums and bass, I was out of staves or very close to it.

Anyone else recall their "one" thing?

X-noteheads. Not that I needed them all that often, but I wanted them.

Looking back, though, there were all sorts of things that I needed. But until I had Finale, I didn’t know I needed them. I do know, for a fact, that I could never have come as far as I have, without it!
