Adding VST plugins to PrintMusic 2010

Can someone tell me where I can go to find out how to add instruments via VST plugins or other sources? I start from being clueless. What I want to do essentially is add a different piano sound.

I don't think you can. AFAIK, PM won't let you use plug ins. You may be able to use a different sound font, but I don't know how to tell you to do that. Sorry.

To get more sounds, I installed an Edirol (Roland) Virtual Sound Canvas, then set my MIDI to pick up from that during playback.

VSC has all the instruments of the Roland SC-55 Sound Canvas, and that includes more than 50 piano types, from a concert grand that is very close to my Roland FP3 on to a metalic hammered honky-tonk, etc...

I use the VSC as my default sound module and have pretty much sworn off the sounds that come with PM.... and until they get Garritan PO to work properly in PM (or until I break down and upgrade to Finale), the VSC is my choice.... you might want to check it out....

I have VSC-MP1 installed for Band-in-a-Box but I can't seem to get PM 2007 to recognize VSC. How do I get VSC to appear in the MIDI Out Device selection list? Thanks.

Not sure that will work for all users, but here's how I did it. With all my PM apps closed, I installed the Edirol in a seperate space on C (in it's own folder under C:\\program files in Xp & Vista), then I started PM, opened MIDI>DEVICE SETUP and chose MIDI SETUP. In the MIDI OUT box, browse the list and the Edirol or ROLAND VSC should be available to choose.

It's been working on my various pcs since PM2007 and is still working in PM2011... BTW- you shouldn't have to, but if the ROLAND VSC choice isn't visible, restart the PC. It's amazing how many ills a restart really does fix.

I uninstalled my VSC DXi synth application and then re-installed in:
C:\Program Files\Roland\Virtual Sound Canvas DXi

When I launch PrintMusic and go to MIDI setup, I see the following MIDI out options:

(none)
Default MIDI Output Device
Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth
SmartMusic SoftSynth 1
SmartMusic SoftSynth 2
SmartMusic SoftSynth 3
SmartMusic SoftSynth 4
SmartMusic SoftSynth 5
SmartMusic SoftSynth 6
SmartMusic SoftSynth 7
SmartMusic SoftSynth 8

I've tried them all and there is no hint of VSC DXi showing up anywhere. I've tried rebooting several times to no avail. The VSC DXi app that I installed came with BIAB so perhaps it will only work with BIAB and nothing else.

I suppose that could be it. I bought my version as a standalone and I have successfully installed it on three laptops over the last few years. It's worked fine with PM 2009, 2010 and now with 2011. It's possible that there are some limitations on the BIAB version that work in much the same way as the dedicated Garritan orchestra does with Finale.
